TL:DR, Folk House Swing cancelled tomorrow.
Long version:
As event organisers, we have to consider many things when we put on events. Marketing, tickets, admin, music, and of course, safety. We have discussed this event between us nearly every night this week, and due to the fast changing nature of the situation have held off making the decision for as long as possible. Our conclusion reached on Friday afternoon is that because we not only have to think of the safety of our dance community but the possible effects on the wider environment, we will be cancelling tomorrow’s event.
To be honest, we don’t know whether we got this decision right, only time will tell. We do have concerns about cancelling, specifically financial concerns not only for us as organisers but most of the ticket price for these events goes to hard working musicians who have genuine concerns about income for the next few months. We also worry about this being the start of a period of social isolation which many may find difficult, however we all know that most of us have been putting off learning Solo Jazz for years, so maybe this is a good opportunity?
We’re very sorry to everyone who hoped the event would go ahead, and we will of course be refunding all ticket money in due course. We hope that we’ll look back in three months time and know we made the right call.
