DADS - Dundry Amateur Dramatic Society

DADS - Dundry Amateur Dramatic Society We are a local amateur dramatic group with about 30 members and with a good reputation for high quality performances. And one can see why. Are You Being Served?

We perform an annual pantomime and a play in early summer. Our group has members of all ages and always welcomes new members. Absent Friends
Performed on 29/30th April and 1st May 2009,
‘Absent Friends’ is one of Ayckbourn’s personal favourites among the prolific playwright’s seventy three plays that he’s written in the last fifty years. It was a real challenge for DADS and one which we all enjoye

d. The play was followed by a short review of various songs, sketches and prose, ending with a hilarious rendition of ‘You’re the One That I Want’, with the female cast resplendent in pink jackets, and the men in 60’s wigs. Aladdin
Once again DADS filled Dundry Village Hall to capacity with its 11th pantomime, ‘Aladdin’, by Jim Sperink, performed 29th-31st January 2009. The story of ‘Aladdin’ was faithfully portrayed by the cast, whilst introducing the much-loved slap-stick in a cooking scene and a ‘live’ television scene. Some youngsters were given their first major roles, and they all performed superbly. In the chorus there were also some new faces of members of Dundry choir. Young lads in the chorus included three members of one family. Robin Hood
Dundry Village Hall was transformed into Sherwood Forest from 24th-27th January 2007, for DADS’ latest pantomime, ‘Robin Hood & His Merry Men’. Discovered therein were Robin, Friar Tuck, Will Scarlett, and Little John, all trying to work out a plan to rescue Maid Marian from the evil clutches of Prince John and the Sheriff of Nottingham. As this is panto land, the extra characters introduced were Marian’s nurse, Gussett and Gymkhana accompanied by her only friend, Daisy the Cow. Fun and Frolics
Dundry Drama Group performed a “benefit” variety show on Saturday 28th October 2006 to help raise funds for Dundry Village Hall . The programme, which was split into two parts separated by a buffet served during the interval, included a good mix of songs, poems and sketches with a liberal sprinkling of humour. The finale was, of course, a rendition of "That's Entertainment". Are You Being Served?’, by Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft, was once again, very well received by its audiences on 14-16th June 2006
As in the original TV series, the show was full of innuendo and mistaken identities. All the usual characters were there, all ably presented by the cast. The stage set was excellent, from the interior of ‘Grace Brothers’, to the ‘Don Bernardo’ Hotel, especially when the curtains opened in the second act showing the ‘tenty houses’. Geoff and Linda Rennie were mainly responsible for this, helped by Brain Chard, Bee Quick, Lin Edwards and Kay Deitch. Cinderella
From 25th to 28th January 2006 audiences of over 500 people came to watch Dundry Drama Group’s latest pantomime, Cinderella. The traditional story had all the usual characters, wonderfully portrayed by the cast. Add to this favourite songs, such as ‘Sisters’ (sung by Ugly Sisters), ‘There’s a hole in my Bucket’ (sung by the Baron and Baroness), dancing and special effects; it all made for a very enjoyable show. Two, One-Act, Plays
In the sweltering heat of 14th – 16th July 2005, Dundry Drama Group’s production of two one-act plays was a big success. The two very different plays show how versatile the group is and how it is not afraid to tackle more challenging dramas. The Browning Version was grittily held together by the main characters of Andrew and Millie Crocker-Harris, (Mike Haslet and Sandra Fenlon), whose lifeless marriage is gradually exposed. The Haunted Through Lounge and Recessed Dining Nook at Farndale Castle, began as the audience was still finding seats!! This was intentional, as the fictitious Farndale Ladies were still in rehearsal and not ready for curtain up! The hapless group were brilliantly portrayed in this very funny play full of mishaps and missed words. Sinbad The Sailor
Dundry Drama Group's pantomime 'Sinbad the Sailor, got off to a flying start on Wednesday 23rd February 2005 and carried on through until Saturday 26th. This is the group's 7th panto and was excellent, as usual. The costumes, set and special effects are their signature and the characters were brought to life by a very able cast. It is good to see local children in the show and they had a wonderful time both rehearsing and performing. The production was directed and produced by Paul James and it is due to his vision and constant striving to do well that the show was so good. If you missed this show, make sure you come to the next!!
