Earth Prayer Trilogy

These paintings are titled 'Feed Me Sunlight', 'Feed Me Prayer' and 'The Seed'.

I created these three paintings from my Dreamtime drawings, all based on the lyrics from the song 'The Seed', by , which was a powerful source of inspiration for me.

It felt like the song encapsulated all of the same ethos behind my Earth Prayer project and has been an anthem that has given me much hope.

"Just like the Seed
I don't know where to go
Through the dirt and shadow, I grow
I'm reaching light through the struggle
Just like the Seed
I'm chasing the wonder
I unravel myself
All in slow motion. "

These paintings represent a chapter of my life that I feel is now in completion, and I am ready to breathe new air, take on new forms, and enter
new realms of creativity.

Throwback to when my Peace Liillies were on display in collaboration with and for a New Year’s Day New Era rave party (2024). What an honour and what a great way to bring in the year.

It was a dream come true to work with light technicians who could intelligently light all of my artwork so that it colour changed with the music.

Working with light and form in this way is something I long to do and I’m hoping to bring a new upcoming project to realisation soon where I do exactly this only on a much larger scale. Fingers crossed that my funding application is successful.

OK, so yes, super late to the party, but Happy Circus Day (for the other day)!

Been doing a spring clear out and found these golden oldies... (back from the good ol' Carny days and Match Girl era... and when we still took photos and had business cards!!).

Feels like such an epic long time ago when I felt the pull to run away to the circus. Reflecting back, it was such an amazing chapter of my life, and one that definitely shaped me in many incredible ways amongst the most amazingly weird and wonderful family of misfits.

Long live circus, and thank you to all the freaking fabulous times we had and all the freedom and fearlessness we shared.

Work in progress on a new costume commission.

I absolutely love this one as it seems to perfectly align with my own work.

The brief... to make two fuscia stilt characters - keeping it simple, elegant, and (of course goes without saying) fabulous.

As well as being easy to wear, easy to transport, and pack down in a bag...

So it's time for a bit of skirt re-invention - finding ways to make petal skirts that sit correctly, without being too problematic for walking around in, as well as speaking essence of fuschia.

Loving the challenge... yes, I know it's exactly my thing, and I can't wait to see the end result.

I love spring so much!

The transition from the dark and the cold into all the warmth and vibrancy that summer brings.

All that energy from the first buds appearing, to the bursting into bloom and the final creation of the blossom. The evidence that nature really is supreme.

I love this process of transformation. In fact, it's what I thrive on more than anything. Watching as the seeds find their way to the light and all the tiny buds on the trees that just magically appear. It's so exciting to me to witness this process and all the anticipation that brings.

As much as I enjoy summer and the abundance of life, I absolutely love this feeling of spring. It holds so much promise of what's to come.

Had a bit of a play about while there was extra space in the studio...

I'd like to put these together to make a giant size artwork, but I'm currently a bit stuck on exactly how to do that...

They were originally designed as a walking garden for a Climate Carnival parade, so if anyone has a parade and/or a giant size wall situation, they need filling with colourful flowers, then hit me up...

Light Portal series....

I'm still trying to fathom out how best to photograph these... It's definitely a whole new learning curve...

I adore how the white background brings out all the neutral shades...

These were such a journey to create. I like to work on many things at once as I find that the more I do this, the more each piece informs the rest. However, this series definitely challenged me as I worked on six creations all at the same time, each being quite large-scale. I found that if I dropped out of flow state, the levels of overwhelm were intense because there was so much going on around me. It was quite a test to remain in focus and in surrender to the process.

It seems the larger the piece, the deeper the flow state, the more satisfying the result and the more I grow as a human being.

Each artwork was like a metamorphosis, not just of the piece but of myself as well.

Sharing images from my new 'Light Portal' series.

I've been exploring different textures and textile fabrications and playing with form and light.

However, I also like the stark contrast of the white palette against the black.

More to follow.

Completing the circle…

Throwback to this time last year when the first thing I did when I got my Arts Council grant was go and sign up on a metalwork course so that I could learn how to weld.

I wanted to expand my skill set and I felt that working with metal would allow me the freedom to add structure to my textile forms.

Massive thanks to and the team at (Women Teaching Fabrication) for taking me under their wing.

During the course we got on really well, and finding that I had a natural making ability, Felix asked if I wanted to stay on and work assisting on her project.

This was such an amazing opportunity and gave me the chance to really get the feel for metal and yes it confirmed my hunch that this is part of what I want to do. (Felix got me making the wings for two large metal sculptures for a nature trail park as per photos). Sadly I’ve not been able to continue down this path so far, as I neither have the space, equipment or funds to expand in this direction.

However tomorrow sees the start of a new adventure at the Circus Architecture metal workshop as I’ve been invited to work as part of their team making a mobile (tented) sensory space for disabled kids. I will be making two mixed media light sculptures and assisting on sewing the tent cover.

It’s funny because I’m currently using the exact sculpture (not even sure if I can call it that) I made at WTF workshops one year ago as the starting point for the new pieces. Using metal for the structure upon which I build out the textile forms. Anyway I’m beyond excited to be collaborating with the amazing Will Datson who will help with the metal work aspect. I’m also very excited to be sewing the tent cover, working in satin on a large scale.

Both these works feel completely in alignment with my current Earth Prayer project so I’m hugely inspired and very grateful to have this work fall into place.
