Last month, Owen Collins smashed it in our slam and will be joining us for a full set next week.

Owen Collins is a performance poet who believes in socialism, love at first sight, and not having to pay to use the toilet at major railway termini. He runs Do You Remember The Verse Time, Witney’s best/only live poetry night, and has previously been support act for both Madness and a member of the House of Lords (one of the good ones).

The soul of Milk Poetry is our open stage, where emerging voices stand alongside stalwart poetry pros. As well as our iconic poetry slam (the only regular slam in Bristol!), we like to open our mic every now and then in a non-competitive environment. Check out the list of voices joining us on the 30th March.

The Milk Poetry mic has been a launch pad for an incredible array of poets over the years. Previous winners of the Milk Poetry slam have gone on to win literary awards, have plays commissioned by major UK theatres, and have performed on stages across the world.

Here's our brilliant open mic list for the 30th March who will be performing before Jenny Foulds' show Life Learnings of a Nonsensical Human.

Artist spotlight | February 15th | Aish Humphries:

The launch of Eryn McDonald’s debut pamphlet, Friezewood is tomorrow at the Wardrobe Theatre. As well as reading from their new work Eryn has curated three brilliant artists for the night, the third of which is Aish - In Eryn’s words:

"Aish is my platonic soulmate. We met back when I was still a student and I was enthralled by his poetry from the first time I saw him perform. Aish is so often the quietest person in the room with the loudest things to say. His poetry has made me cry on numerous occasions and he has gotten me through some of the roughest times in my life. For the last 2 years we have been writing a show together about our experiences of being trans, and I couldn’t be more proud of what we have achieved together."

Artist spotlight | February 15th | Jessi:

The launch of Eryn McDonald’s debut pamphlet, Friezewood is coming up on Sunday. As well as reading from their new work Eryn has curated three brilliant artists for the night, the second of which is Jessi - In Eryn’s words:

“Jessi is not only an incredibly talented musician, she is also my cousin! When we were younger we used to sing Taylor Swift songs together while she played guitar. Our nan would try and get us to perform for the family, and I do remember one time standing outside the room to sing while Jess played in front of everyone. I was so grateful when she started writing her own songs because it really took the pressure off me, but I also remember hearing her play from the age of about thirteen and thinking blimey my cousin is actually really good at this! Her music has grown and expanded so much in the last 17 years and I am so so excited to have her perform at my launch.”

The launch of Eryn McDonald’s debut pamphlet, Friezewood is coming up on Sunday. As well as reading from their new work Eryn has curated three brilliant artists for the night, the first of which is TJ - In Eryn’s words:

"TJ and I met at Bath Spa and we were teammates on the Spa UniSlam team in 2021 and 2022. We have seen each other’s work from the early days and it has been such an honour to watch them grow as a poet and performer. Even from the start they had the power to absolutely astonish a room, and having watched them improve over the years I have to say they still never fail to leave my jaw on the floor. TJ is one of those people who just carries a joyous light around with them at all times. I like to think our time at uni was where we let our neurodivergence run wild, but I don’t think either of us knew it then!"

Hello! Two important things to share.

Firstly the incredibly talented and all round wonderful Aish is fundraising for his top surgery. Aish is a brilliant poet that many of you will have seen perform all over the Southwest over the years but beyond that is simply a person and every person deserves access to treatment to be themselves. They are running a brilliant Cabaret night tonight to fundraise but also have an ongoing gofundme (gofund.me/1eaf53226 or websearch it). Please support if you can.

Secondly we are excited to share that the wonderful ’s new show Nine Sixteenths is back for a 2026 UK National Tour!

This bold and powerful production explores pop culture, media scrutiny and the lived experiences of Black women in the public eye, rooted in the 2004 Super Bowl Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake controversy that reshaped global connections.
Nine Sixteenths is on at the to***co factory on the 9th and the 10th of Feb.

Support arts, support artists.
