Bristol Safe Space initiative launches this weekend.
IMPORTANT NEWS - This coming weekend (Friday 4th and Saturday 5th September) marks the first operational weekend of Bristol Safe Space at Night.
The project is delivered by Bristol BID, Avon & Somerset Police, Bristol Ambulance and CR2 Security and supported by city partners including Bristol City Council, The University of Bristol, The University of the West of England, University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, Hope Against Su***de, Buoy Events, The Bristol Marriot Royal Hotel and The Hoteliers Association
Bristol Safe Space at Night will run every Friday and Saturday night from 10pm-4am, located on the central promenade opposite Bristol Hippodrome. Its aim is to provide a friendly place for people to visit while out in Bristol city centre at night and a welfare and wellbeing service, for those feeling vulnerable and in need of somewhere safe to be.
Services will include:
First aid from a trained First Responder.
Emergency phone charging.
Somewhere to sit, take a moment and regroup.
Feminine hygiene and sexual health products.
Blister plasters and other basic welfare essentials.
Drink spiking test kits / drink testing.
A friendly, non-judgemental person to talk to.
Information and signposting to other support available in the city.
Help contacting other services, including medical support or the police, if needed.
It will be staffed by a first responder medic from Bristol Ambulance, and a Security Marshal from CR2 Security. It will link closely with existing organisations that patrol the city centre such as Hope Against Su***de, Bristol Street Pastors and the Bristol BID Night Rangers. The Safe Space will be connected to businesses through the city radio scheme.
It is important to note that this service is not a replacement for any emergency service. If emergency care or response is required, the standard 999 route must be followed.
