"Eden J. Peppercorn's new drama is both a tasteful and exuberant amalgamation of post- Rock n’ Roll faded splendour and Renaissance flamboyance. With free movement, an electric score, and a casually debaucherous script, Peppercorn and Hart's work is sleek and vivid. "

Marlowe was a proto-queer anarchic genius, stabbed to death in 1593 at the age of 29. He was the first playwright to famously write in the blank verse we now laud Shakespeare for. His plays were dangerously subversive whilst maintaining enough ambiguity and brilliance to be widely performed and publicly adored. He was a rockstar of his time.

In truth we know so little about him that it would be impossible to write a play on his life without using a little artistic license (and I don’t think he’d mind that, as long as we made him look fu***ng cool). The paper trail we have of his life is scarce: a few arrests and a cryptic letter sent to his Cambridge college implying his tantalising underground career of spy for the state. The only portrait we have of him might not even be of him at all.

So we’ve had fun with it. I have, in writing it, and we all have in rehearsing. THAT WHICH FEEDS ME is not a historical drama, or a play overly concerned with factual nitpicking. it's a piece made for all the lights and glory of the Winston stage. It’s an hour-long-rock-concert punch to the gut.

I’m stupidly proud of it, the cast and the crew, and I really hope you enjoy it.
