Last but not least meet our director ✨Jessica is a dancer, performer and teacher specializing in samba no pe.Jessica fell in love with samba and Brazilian culture during her Modern language degree when she had the opportunity to live in this vibrant country during her exchange year. After completing her studies she attended regular samba classes in Bristol and embarked on her first dance trip in 2014 where she immersed herself for 3 months in Brazilian culture and studied various styles of Afro-Brazilian dance including samba reggae, Orixás and Samba no pé! Her passion and admiration for samba grew from there and Jessica has since then done a further 6 trips to Brazil in the pursuit of expanding her knowledge and skills, slowly turning her hobby into a profession. From 2017 Jessica put all her energy into Samba no pé, In particular passista stlying. In order to do achieve this she spent extensive periods of time training hard in Rio de Janeiro in preparation for Carnaval and has performed in several samba schools as an official passista (professional samba dancer) including Unidos de Bangu (2019) and GRES Cubango (2022). She has studied with some of the best samba instructors, samba queens and passistas in Rio de Janeiro, including Carlinhos Salgueiro, Mayara Lima, Amanda Omin, Kellyn Rosa, Caroline Silva and Alex Coutinho. In addition, during her stays in Rio she has also been involved in many samba projects under the direction of her main samba master Alex Coutinho, namely the poderosas ala and his samba project in Paraiso de Tuiutti.Jessica teaches and performs samba regularly and has been involved in many types of samba events, including community projects, international shows and corporate shows in the UK. Having spent so much time in Brazil dancing and training with local communities Jessica is extremely passionate about respecting and representing Brazilian dance with integrity and authenticity. She considers herself to be an eternal student and is constantly evolving and learning. Her vision with Samba Alegria is to bring this joyful dance to the masses whist honoring it’s roots!
