25 years of Manasseh 🎶

For a quarter of a century, Manasseh has occupied a vibrant space in the worldwide reggae and dub community.

What started as a sound system built by a group of school friends for Notting Hill Carnival in 1985 went on to become a pioneering force in UK reggae. From the legendary Manasseh late-night dub show on Kiss FM in the late ’80s, to playing dancefloors around the world, Nick Manasseh has built a reputation for his distinctive selections, deep-rooted sound and boundary-pushing production.

Widely credited with pioneering the UK Steppers sound, Nick has produced and released music through labels including Acid Jazz and Roots Garden, while working with artists including Marcia Griffiths, Horace Andy, Dido, Emiliana Torrini and The Dub Pistols from his studio, The Yard, in Ladbroke Grove.

More recently, his Soul Revivers project with David Hill has seen him return to Acid Jazz Records. Their debut album, On The Grove, featuring legends including Ernest Ranglin, Ken Boothe and Earl Sixteen, has received widespread acclaim, with the second album coming very soon.

A true pioneer of UK reggae, dub and sound system culture — and we’re very excited to welcome Manasseh to Lost Horizon.

Thursday was a reminder of why these spaces matter. ❤️

A huge thank you to , , , , , , , , , , , , and all our amazing staff who made it all possible!

To host an event of that scale, welcome over 620 people through the doors on a Thursday night in Bristol, and witness the energy, passion and connection in the room was something truly special.

The professionalism, talent and commitment shown by everyone involved, both on and off stage, is what makes nights like these possible. We are incredibly grateful to every person who chose to be part of it.

At a time when grassroots venues across the country are facing increased pressures, nights like this are an important reminder that music and community still matters.

It matters to the artists creating it, to the teams supporting it, to the venues housing it, and most importantly, to the thousands of people whose lives are shaped by it every single week.

Seeing 620 people come together in one room on a Thursday night wasn’t just a successful event. It was proof that people still want to connect, dance, discover music and be part of something bigger than themselves.

For that to continue, we need to keep supporting the spaces that make it possible. Grassroots venues are more than four walls and a sound system. They are places where communities are built, careers are launched, friendships are formed and culture is created.

Thursday night showed exactly what can happen when artists, managers, labels, promoters, venues and music lovers all pull in the same direction.

Thank you to everyone who continues to believe in these spaces and support independent music culture.

Bristol got the memo. ❤️
