A fabulous day off yesterday and a lovely day with Maddy and a sunny (very uphill 🥵) walk to Wotton Under Edge for their Pride festival! 👏🌈🩷
(Not all the way from Sodbury, just from Kingswood - I'm not that fit!) 🤣

First stop was to see Pod
where I may have purchased a few gorgeous skeins for a new project! I bumped into quite a few customers there too... Lovely to see them! 🧶🧶🧶
We even got Pod to pick up their needles and do some knitting in public! 🎉🥳📸📷

We met up with Emily from who had a huge selection of books, and who was busy knitting in public too!

The parade was fantastic, with, vibrant colours, people dressed up, the most talented steel band playing, sunny vibes and dancing in the street!

We found these brilliantly decorated cars on the way to see Nicola at her Fabric and Craft shop, and after a little lunch we took the very easy walk back down hill and home! 🧶🌈🧶

Congratulations! 🥳 You've made it to the end of the week with me, thank you! 😍

This week we've talked about squishing yarn, the benefits of using your high street shops, the FREE help we give, and the mystery that is (what I have now named) "Alan the Algorithm" 😂

So here's your final reminder for why we need you to keep supporting us, and for making sure you don't loose us!

I know you'd LOVE to buy yarn everyday of the week, honestly, same here, but apparently that's "not financially sensible" (who needs "sensible" in a yarn shop?!) or "technically hording" (we call it our "collecting" hobby, and the other is the "using" hobby, THEY ARE DIFFERENT 😉).

If you love the shop, recommend it to anyone! Even if they don't knit - their auntie will know someone who does, then the whole village will know 😂

Speaking of Tesco.... if anyone wants to stand at the bottom of the Tesco escalators holding a giant poster that says "HAVE YOU VISITED THE WOOL CELLAR? YOU REALLY SHOULD"
I will not stop you. I will applaud you, and bring you very nice snacks - I promise! Many of you would have heard me champion this approach in the shop 😅

Regardless of how you feel about social media, it's the biggest way we can get noticed and for people to know we are here.
Every like, every share, every comment, every "oh you'd love this shop!" said to a stranger in a queue all helps keep this woolly haven alive for everyone 🧶🧶🧶🧶

Wednesday - "The Social Side: Come in for Yarn, Stay for the chat"

You know the story. You're on a strict one-project-at-a-time regime (of course you are).
You pop in for "just one ball" and suddenly you're carrying yarn like you're prepping for an apocalypse after chatting to another yarny who has talked you into a brand new project that you absolutely must start immediately, breaking your STRICT one-project rule and you arrange to meet next week for coffee and cake. 🥰
( I have baskets you know, there's no need to struggle 🛒)

Meanwhile, somewhere outside....
A husband is wandering up and down the high street, checking his watch, wondering if he should file a missing person report. Because (and let's be honest here) husbands lose their wives in my shop all the time. It's true! 😂

One minute she was there, then she was gone! They come in, very slowly and gingerly, head down the back. There she is, quite comfy on the sofa, elbows deep in pattern books, from which she's now emotionally committed to three more projects and needs more yarn! 😝
He's now enlisted as chief carrier (I have baskets) and payer.
(Dear partners - I do gift vouchers - may birthdays and Christmas' never be a problem again, you're welcome) 🥰

The magical, slightly dangerous sofa, an amazing space where time ceases to exist. 20 mins is now 3 hours, people have chatted, shared makes and ideas and shared tips.

People come in and accidentally reunite with friends they've not seen since 1984 - with no idea that each of them could knit or crochet. They catch up on family news, compare grandkids, swap life updates and laugh like they've never been apart. 🫂

Let's be honest, popping in for a browse often turns into a chat, a laugh even a therapy session. For others, it's a life line. The shop provides community in its simplest, loveliest form, even if slightly chaotic - and I wouldn't have it any other way. 😘

Tuesday "The Squish Test: Why Shopping in Person Wins Every Time!" 🥇👏

Yarn is tactile! We absolutely welcome people do the squish test. In our shop, you can poke, prod, stroke and cuddle the yarn to give it the 'next to skin' test (Within reason of course!)
We do ask you to refrain from napping on the sofa with a few balls as a pillow, however well you think you may sleep. It's not our fault you just wanted to do "one more row" until 3am) 😴😂

You can compare shades, get loads out on the counter to figure your temperature blanket (please not all 125 shades of SSDK that we stock at the same time, other customers won't be able to find the till). 😶‍🌫️
Sort them in order and out of order, photograph them. You can ask what we, and other customers think....and then change your mind 5 times over 🤔. We really don't mind - just excuse us if we put the kettle on for another coffee while waiting for you. ☕

You see it, love it, buy it and take it home with you! Yes! With you! Immediately, it's yours (as long as you've paid of course - you know who you are 😆😂😉). No anxious waiting for a delivery!

We want you to fall in love with your new project. When inspiration strikes you can walk out with exactly what you need. You could be home in record time, kettle on and on row 10 within an hour.

We retain the right to photograph such loving behaviour of your newest adoptions and the incredible grin and skip in your step that you have leaving the shop! 😁💃

We then wait patiently⏳⏰🕰 for you to send us beautiful photos of your makes, or for you to come in catwalk-styling your new cardi in a show & tell - and we love it when you do! Your confidence is oozing and you're super proud of what you've achieved 😍👏🧶🧶

That's why shopping in person wins every time! We get to know you, your skills, your preferences, what you're working on and we love to talk to you about it. 🥰

Monday - "Why shopping small business makes YOU a hero" 🥰🧶🥳

Welcome to Small Business Week, where supporting your local wool shop officially counts as a HEROIC act! The cape is optional, it's entirely up to you if you'd like to wear your crocheted cape - but we'll take a picture of it "finally" finished! We will applaud you! 🥳🎉👏

When you shop small, you're not funding a billionaire's rocket to the moon - you really are helping me pay my mortgage, keep the dogs in the life that they demand 🐶🐶🐶🐾, and help me pay the rent to keep the shop open for you.

You get actual human help! Real advice. FREE advice no less. And someone who won't judge you (much) when you say you're starting ANOTHER project. You come in with vague ideas like "I want to knit something?" and I'll help you figure out the yarn, needles, the pattern, emotional support required and often your life choices.

You can ask me questions in real time. No chatbots. No "click here for help". Just me, a cup of coffee somewhere nearby, and a slightly raised eyebrow and smirk when you say you'll definitely finish THAT project before you start your next - see above - not much judgement 😆
