We had the pleasure of Evelyn Gottschall Baker enrolling as a student on Laura Quinns Lampworking Bugs and Botanics masterclass back in February. 🌸

As well as bugs, Laura demonstrates how to assemble a flameworked flower from bullseye glass which you can see made here by Evelyn.

What an incredible opening to The International Festival of Glass 2026! 💥

We were blown away by the work exhibited and it was such a pleasure to see our wonderful community of makers. Huge congratulations to everyone exhibiting and a special congratulations to all of this years prize winners 🏆

We’ve been looking back at student work made alongside Silvia Levenson 💭

This box cast piece was created by Collette Dews during Silvia's Negative Space masterclass back in 2023. Throughout the masterclass, students explored casting plaster shapes to include in their composition, learning how to build a vermiculite box moulds for casting glass within.

Day Four: Our final day of the in person masterclass with Helen Slater Stokes at Morley College was all about cold working and extending the skills developed on the course. 🏁

The students cold worked their fired pieces using diamond hand pads, silicon carbide grits and flat lap machines. Alongside this, Helen demonstrated how students can create their own decal sheets to incorporate into future designs. We then opened the kilns to reveal the students final sgraffito frit drawing pieces. 🌱

What is Devitrification? 🔍

Devitrification can appear as unwanted marks or a cloudy, fingerprint like effect on the surface of your glass. One of the best ways to help prevent it is to give your glass a thorough clean using the right products before firing. 🫆

Cleaning your glass removes anything that could contaminate the surface during firing, including cutting fluid, oils, dust, sticker residue and fingerprints, to name just a few.
