We often get asked, "Where do you start when you're coming up with an escape room?"
We've got two answers to that!
1. If you've got a theme, story or setting in mind, try listing as many objects or activities associated with it as possible. Go wild!
2. If you already have your space for the game, look around, and imagine it was an escape game already. Where would you look for puzzles? Where are the patterns and abnormalities in the room - a row of identical objects, an unusual object, a repeating motif? What would you WANT to happen?
Then, when you've got these lists, start thinking about how things or information might be contained by those things on your list. Is it a physical hiding place, a visual code, or some kind of switch?
Of course, there's much more to it than that. But our #1 tip for Creating your own Escape is: imagine the whole world is already a big escape room, and start looking for puzzles! Then... build what's in your imagination!
