Sometimes, it's so hard to get into the zone but once you are there, you are there for good!

Time flies when you are having fun. Hooray for the productivity of hyperfocus, although less hooray for forgetting to eat or drink.

Here's your reminder to go have a glass of water.

Hello Bristol! The BS5 Art Trail is this weekend, and it's time for my annual open studio.

Greenbank Pottery is venue 6 on the trail map. I make functional nature inspired stoneware pottery, balancing chaos with calm. Stop by to visit my ramshackle garden studio, see some of my new work and chat pottery, before heading off to see all the otehr amazing artists in the neighbourhood.

Also, always popular, you can have a rummage through a years worth of pottery mistakes, test pieces and bits and bobs which have cracks or blemishes; Its my big discount sale of seconds because I dont like anything to go to waste.

Although my studio is not wheelchair accessible due to a big step up, it's got large double doors and is not very big so you can still get a good view from the doorway and I'm very happy to pass stuff out.

You can view the trail map at www.bs5arttrail.co.uk

Just home from an amazing week on the Tudor Pottery at Kentwell Hall

Such a joy to work and play with such wonderful friends in a place that really feels like home. What an epic community of reenactors we have. There was so much joy, so much hilarity and so much love.

The events are always so gorgeous and immersive that I utterly forget to take photos, but I did manage to have my camera with me on the last day and snap a few pics of things I made while working on the pottery.

Post kentwell blues are really here now. My feet are much cleaner but I definitely need to catch up on sleep. The tudors had very late nights, dont you know đŸ˜….

Until it's fired clay be be used over and over.

You could leave an united pot for years, And it could be bone dry but then it will still just go back to mud if you add water.

If im throwing and a pot collapses, I usually just wedge it up again straight away to rethrow. Otherwise, all the practice or broken pots, wheel scraps and general clay off cuts can go in a big bucket to be mixed and dried out again to useable clay.

I put wheel slip straight in my reclaim. Other clay I leave until its bone dry before adding it as it will then disintegrate better and make the reclaim less lumpy.

Once I have motivation and a sunny day, I mix my reclaim using a paint mixer and electric drill. Use a plug in one, the battery powered one in the video was not up to yhe job! Once you have a clay slurry , spread it on an absorbant slab. This can be potters plaster or diatomite. After a short while, the water has been drawn out of the slurry and you can roll up and wedge your clay to use again.
