White Wall Cinema

White Wall Cinema A Brighton pop up cinema community. Much of today's film culture is centred around mass release hype movies like The Avengers, or 50 Shades of Grey.

It is our mission to screen a variety of alternative, fun, interesting, unusual, cult, and all time classic films in intimate locations around Brighton. We want to bring an alternative option where people can enjoy cinema that won't grace the screens of your local multiplex. We want to provide a place not only for new exciting cinema, but lost & undiscovered gems of the past, alongside cult favour

ites & definitive cinematic classics that whilst widely known about, still seem to remain unseen by the vast majority of the people we speak to and are rarely seen on a big screen. All of this in a fun informal friendly "pop up" environment where discussion and a deeper understanding of these movies can occur pre and post screenings.

Praise for Ethan Hawke's career best performance in this Tuesday's Richard Linklater film - screening at White Wall Cinema (8.20pm).

Review number 5 is by our friend who actually starred in a Wes Anderson movie.

An incredible turn by Hawke not to be missed, a beautiful script, and yes, Margaret Qualley is in it too (also Andrew Scott).

Our special guest on June 25th is BBC broadcaster and journalist Samira Ahmed who will be discussing her new BFI book with us on the British film classic The Beatles A Hard Day's Night followed by a special screening of the film in it's new 4K remaster.

GET TICKETS NOW VIA THE LINK IN OUR BIO.

Samira is the host of the BBC’s flagship arts programme Front Row on Radio 4, where she interviews leading film directors, actors, writers, and creators from across the cultural world. She also presents Newswatch on the BBC News Channel. In 2020, she was named Audio Presenter of the Year by the Broadcasting Press Guild.

Alongside her broadcasting career, Ahmed has written for The Guardian and The Independent and is now the author of the definitive British Film Institute's Classics volume on A Hard Day’s Night.

A lifelong Beatles fan, Ahmed’s love for the film began in the late 1970s, watching her older brother's home-recorded Betamax copy until it wore out. Decades later, the film once again became a source of inspiration spurring her on during her landmark 2020 legal victory against the BBC in a high-profile s*x discrimination equal pay case.

In 2021, she interviewed Paul McCartney live on stage at London’s Royal Festival Hall. Then, in 2023, she made international headlines after uncovering the earliest complete recording of a Beatles concert in the UK, a 1963 performance at Stowe School, helping secure its acquisition by the British Library for the nation.

Alongside the screening and Q&A, there will also be an opportunity to purchase copies of Samira’s fascinating book on the film and have them personally signed.

Brilliant, Balding, Q***r, Witty, Lonely, Talented and Quietly Unravelling... Tues Sept 16th at WWC, join us for Blue Moon and the story of Lorenz Hart, one half of one of history’s greatest songwriting partnerships...

Tix via the link in our bio.

Alongside Richard Rodgers, Hart created timeless standards, including The Lady Is a Tramp, My Funny Valentine, and, of course, Blue Moon. But on this fateful evening in 1943, we find Hart alone at a bar on the opening night of Rodgers’ new musical, Oklahoma!, the first collaboration between Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. As Rogers & Hammerstein, they would go on to dominate American musical theatre with classics such as South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music.

Set entirely over the course of a single after-show party, the film captures the painful moment Hart realises both his professional success and personal companionship are slipping away.

A gorgeously made film from longtime collaborator Richard Linklater & Ethan Hawke Oscar nominated for Hawkes extraordinary performance and for the absolutely sensational, touching, and hilarious script.

Special guest Q&A plus 4K restoration screening of The Beatles A Hard Day’s Night on Thursday, June 25th....

We will be talking in person with BBC Journalist & Broadcaster, host of Radio 4's Front Row and BBC News Channel's Newswatch Samira about her new BFI book on the film followed by a screening of the seminal music movie classic.

From its exhilarating opening moments, with the Fab Four fleeing screaming fans through the streets of London, the film never lets up. John, Paul, George, and Ringo race from chaos to comedy as they attempt to make it to a live television performance, accompanied by Paul’s mischievous “very clean” grandfather, played by Wilfrid Brambell (Steptoe and Son).

Shot in a vibrant faux-documentary style inspired by the French New Wave, the film follows the band over the course of 36 hectic hours spent dodging fans, journalists, authority figures, and the ever-present risk of losing Ringo.

It's one of the best music films ever made (credited with inventing the music video) and one of the best British films ever made (full stop). Don't miss this deep dive into this Beatles landmark.

BTS of tomorrow's film, a new release para-social thriller named by Variety as one of the top ten films of the year after the premiere at the Sundance film festival. (Film 8.30pm - beer garden open from 7.40pm)

With its propulsive plotting, taut suspense, and incisive take on contemporary culture, Lurker unfolds as a cat-and-mouse thriller of escalating unease. A fresh, distinctly modern para-social story, it is also a fascinatingly universal tale that makes up the latest entry in continuum of movies including All About Eve, The King of Comedy, Misery, Single White Female, The Fan, and The Talented Mr. Ripley.

Assuredly directed, brilliantly acted, and underscored by a right on the money soundtrack, this unflinching and acerbically entertaining nail-biter about a retail worker (Théodore Pellerin – On Becoming a God in Central Florida, Beau Is Afraid) who tries to insinuate himself into the inner circle of a rising music star (Archie Madekwe – Midsommar, Saltburn) is a must see comment on contemporary social media culture as well as brilliant psychological thriller.

Join us for this special new release screening tomorrow, Wednesday, June 3rd. Tix via the link in our bio.
