About last night...
Tuba Skinny's first ever UK show for this legendary New Orleans street band.
World class music in our town all the time thanks to brilliant promoters like
Swing City putting them on at One Church.
And yes - they were superb.

Today we'll be remembering John Varah, Artistic Director of Same Sky for 25 years. We'll be walking him up the hill together for his last parade.

Always supported by loyal trustees, artists, staff, freelancers and suppliers John was the humble leader who quietly motivated hundreds of community events - Burning of the Clocks and the Childrens Parade are just a part of his legacy - inspiring thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands.

There's lot of wonderful tributes out there. And lots of photos of John so we're posting a pic of his art. We think he'd like that :-)

Our thoughts are with Hazel, his family and loved ones

Love Supreme is a special event. The only jazz/jazz-ish green field festival in the country.
We were happy hanging at the New Generation Jazz stage but have to say... Sister Sledge are a great band these days putting groovy spins to their pop bangers.

We are so very sad to share that our beloved John Varah died suddenly and unexpectedly last week.

Our thoughts are with his wife Hazel and his family, who shared this remarkable man with us for so many years.

John was the heart and soul of Same Sky for 34 years - joining as a freelance artist in 1991, then leading us as artistic director for 24 years. He led over 700 events, from lighting the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony to Brighton’s Children’s Parade and Burning the Clocks. He was one of the kindest, most thoughtful people you could hope to meet, and his impact on this city has been immense.

We’d love to receive your stories and memories of John, to collate into a book in his memory. Please send your letters to [email protected] 💌

The family requests that, instead of flowers a donation is made to The Hummingbird Project, in Johns memory.

Thank you, John. Take care of each other.

With love from Same Sky 🤍
