Some photos from last week’s screening of CLOSED CIRCUIT.

Thanks to The Bookseller's Arms for being such good hosts, and to everyone who took a chance on this obscure Italian TV movie! I really enjoyed reading all the letterboxd reviews after the screening.

Hope you’ve all been enjoying Scalarama Leeds this year. See you at the closing party on 2nd October?

OUR FEATURE PRESENTATION: CLOSED CIRCUIT (1978)

During a matinee screening of a spaghetti western, a cinema patron is shot dead by an unseen assassin. With the doors locked and the audience back in their seats, the police run the film again in a bid to reveal the killer.

At once a fun whodunit, a love letter to the cinema going experience and a smart critique of on screen violence, Closed Circuit deserves to be seen with a room full of movie lovers.

Join us at for the first ever Leeds screening (probably) of this meta murder mystery. Will you live long enough to see the credits roll?*

PLUS! A pre-show of 70s Italian trailers to get you in the mood.

CLOSED CIRCUIT (1978)

During a matinee screening of a spaghetti western, a cinema patron is shot dead by an unseen assassin. With the doors locked and the audience back in their seats, the police run the film again in a bid to reveal the killer.

Made for Italian television, CLOSED CIRCUIT never received a wide theatrical release. At once a fun whodunit, a love letter to the cinema going experience and a sharp critique of on screen violence, it deserves to be seen with a room full of movie lovers.

PLUS! A pre-show of 70s Italian trailers to get you in the mood.

Join us at The Bookseller's Arms for a very rare Scalarama Leeds screening of this meta murder mystery!

Thrilled to be presenting Hiroshi Teshigahara’s WOMAN IN THE DUNES at Pictureville Cinema on 20th August, as part of their Summer Takeovers series!

Blending erotic drama with proto-folk horror, Teshigahara’s sensuous existential nightmare is one of the defining films of the Japanese new wave.

Searching for rare insects, an amateur entomologist travels to a remote seaside village surrounded by sand dunes. After missing the last bus back to Tokyo, he is persuaded by the villagers to spend the night with a local widow, who lives in a shack at the bottom of a deep pit. But the following morning, he discovers that none of them has any intention of letting him leave.

Adapted by Kobo Abe from his own novel, Woman in the Dunes was an international arthouse hit upon its release in 1964, with Oscar nominations for best director and best foreign language film.

🔫 SCREENING ANNOUNCEMENT! 📢

Join and .screen to celebrate Gemini season with a doppelgänger double bill at on 5th June, with feature Dead Ringers on 16mm and accompanying short A Kind of Testament.

DEAD RINGERS (1988) is David Cronenberg’s tragic, clinical character study of gynaecologists Elliot and Beverly (Jeremy Irons), identical twins who share everything - their home, their medical practice and even their sexual conquests. Dead Ringers avoids explicit body horror while still demonstrating Cronenberg’s fascination with physical and mental transformation, charting the slow steady unravelling of the twins’ relationship and the toll it takes on them. Don’t miss this rare chance to see it projected on 16mm film, from The Cinema Museum’s own collection.

Stephan Vuillemin’s eerie animated short A KIND OF TESTAMENT (2023) grafts Cronenbergian body horror onto digital space. A young woman’s world begins to unravel when she discovers a series of bizarre internet animations created from her private selfies, and tries to uncover the identity of their creator.
