Rachel Williams’s printmaking work has history and its re-telling at its core. Rooted in and referencing the past but regurgitating constantly into the present, she takes inspiration from prehistoric cave paintings and ancient artefacts held ‘out of context’ in museums.

From drawings and collaged studies, she creates works using a myriad of techniques, including, but not limited to, printmaking, stitching, painting, and collage. Almost all of her works have some form of ‘transference’ or printed technique.

The recent inclusion of embroidery and stitchery in her practice is a link back to the ancient past, the era of the embroidered sampler, and the extraordinary talent of unsung women.

Rachel is based in St Leonards on Sea. Visit the gallery to see more of Rachel’s work on display or request a digital catalogue at: [email protected]

Some paintings demand your attention immediately.
Others draw you in slowly.

Helen McDonald’s work does both. Her abstract landscapes leave just enough of the recognisable to give you a way in, while colour, gesture and texture keep the image open to interpretation.

Perhaps you’ll see a landscape. Perhaps a figure. Perhaps something that reminds you of somewhere you’ve been.
The beauty is that there’s no single answer.

We are delighted to welcome Helen as a new artist to KMA. Now showing in our upstairs gallery, come and see Helen’s work in person or request a digital catalogue of available pieces to buy including the stunning large scale piece ‘ Either Way’ at 136.5 x 182cm wide. (Scroll first three images)

Rooted in storytelling, Astrig Akseralian’s whimsical paintings transform simple rural moments into something quietly extraordinary. Walking a dog, feeding chickens, calling goats, these scenes are elevated through expressive colour and layered composition into works that feel both familiar and otherworldly.

Her intuitive process, built on spontaneity and evolving layers, ensures that no two pieces are ever the same. Each unique painting is rich in character, depth, and a distinctive artistic voice that is a joy to own and appreciate for years to come.

We are delighted to welcome a new collection of original paintings by Moira Hazel in the gallery this week. Moira’s contemporary still lifes are full of energy, texture and playful detail. Working intuitively, she allows each painting to evolve, layering paint, pattern, sgraffito and texture to create works that feel almost alive.

There is something wonderfully uplifting about her paintings: familiar flowers and botanical forms are transformed into vibrant compositions that invite you to look closer and discover something new each time.
