A place for printmakers to make use of a warm, spacious studio in Hove and to have assisted access to three presses, including a 60x100cm roller press and other printmaking equipment.

Our set up at 🖤
This was yesterday before our beginners workshop attendee and four of our regular printmakers arrived for the session.
We run open access sessions for printmakers to use the facilities (can you spot the three presses?) and we also teach one to one beginners linocutting workshops to those that want to learn the process, during these sessions.
We find that one to one teaching provides a richer, less classroom like experience and it’s also always really inspiring for the beginner to see the work that those more experienced are making.
We were busy yesterday but next weds, we have lots of free space. Please do get in touch if you’d like to come along - all info can be found through the link in our bio

It’s not too late to book onto May Everett printmaking weekend - this coming Sat 1st & Sun 2nd April 11am-4pm with the choice of coming for one or both days.
Sat 1st - Experimental Monotypes. Slides 1 & 2 show examples of work made using this process at one of May’s previous courses.
Sun 2nd - Drypoint Etching, see last slide for visual examples.
£90 for one day, £165 for both. All materials included and all levels welcome!

Catherine Greenwood will be back with us at Lawrence Art Studio in a couple of weeks, this time teaching ‘Sugar Lift Aquatint’ etching.
Thursday 6th April 10am-4pm £105, including all materials and tuition. Suitable for beginners, or those that are more experienced with etching.
A little bit about the process:
The painterly Sugar Lift technique allows you to paint positive lines on a plate which can then be step etched in different tonal increments.
The ink & sugar solution is fused onto the plate with heat and then coated with a ground and ‘lifted’ off in hot water. The shiny copper plate is revealed with painterly lines appearing in the wax ground; once dried an aquatint is applied and the plate can be etched.

New workshop dates with May Everett at Lawrence Art Studio

May will be back with us in a months time after the success of her Thursday evening classes she ran in Jan & Feb, but this time on a weekend for those of you that aren’t free in the week.

Sat 1st April - EXPERIMENTAL MONOTYPES
Explore markmaking, monoprinting and the more painterly monotype process using AKUA soy-based professional inks. Experiment with stencils, textured objects and vintage collage materials. You will learn how to use the Lawrence Printmaking Club beautiful TOFKO press as well as produce prints by hand

Sun 2nd April - DRYPOINT ETCHING
Learn how to produce a drypoint etching using mirror card and the TOFKO roller press. We will use non-toxic AKUA intaglio inks and explore how different mark making and inking techniques can create atmospheric results

A selection of beautiful linocut prints by some of our regulars - a perfect illustration of the different marks you can make through this versatile medium.
Top left is by Sam of - when she first pulled this print at the club I told her it reminded me of graphic novel art, and she then told me that it was inspired by a story she has had in her brain for a while but has been struggling to write 🖤
Top right is by - she has been coming to the club for three or four years now and she has gone from being a dabbler to a reduction linocut pro in this time and now shows and sells her work locally - love the colours she has used in this charming domestic scene.
Bottom is by newbie Hannah - just look at those lines...
Can’t believe she’s new to linocutting!

We love it when we’re putting last weeks prints away in the planchest drawers and notice how our printmakers have been using similar colours to each other!
This coming Weds 21st Dec will be our last session at Lawrence Art Studio until the new year, please get in touch if you fancy doing some last minute printmaking before Christmas - the session is currently looking quiet and with just a couple more bookings it means it will definitely be able to go ahead 😀

Happy wet windy Autumn! 🍂
This linocut print is by new print club member who came to a beginners workshop with us at Lawrence Art Studio last month - having never done it before, she really took to it and is now enjoying coming along to print with us regularly.
Just a heads up that we will be closed on Mon 21st & Weds 23rd November, with the possibility of reduced opening hours for a couple weeks after that during so if you want to get any pre-Christmas printing done, now is the time to book in! Email [email protected]

We are so happy to now have studio support from the amazing who have sent us 10 tubes of their professional oil based water washable ink, because of being new collaborators with club founder
These inks are brilliant quality and they work well on fabric as well as paper.
Fancy coming and doing some printmaking here at ?
We have space this afternoon/evening and use of these inks is included in the session price.
