🎼 Vaughan Williams. Arvo Pärt. Jonny Greenwood. Ice, stillness and overwhelming beauty.

Our atmospheric winter concert journeys deep into frozen landscapes and human emotion, from the haunting grandeur of Vaughan Williams’ Sinfonia antartica to the shimmering fragility of Arvo Pärt and Jonny Greenwood.

We’re joined by internationally acclaimed soprano Elizabeth Watts, genre-defying artist BISHI, the women of Brighton Festival Chorus, and filmmaker Kathy Hinde, whose live visuals will transform Brighton Dome into a vast Antarctic dreamscape.

This is orchestral music at its most cinematic, immersive and awe-inspiring.

🎺 Purcell gets remixed. Pachelbel finds a groove. Baroque meets jazz, improvisation and pure musical freedom.

Dutch trumpet virtuoso Eric Vloeimans joins Joanna MacGregor and Brighton Philharmonic Strings for an evening where centuries collide.

Expect everything from gritty Ukrainian folk reimaginings to fresh takes on Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, alongside Rameau dances, Pachelbel’s beloved Canon and the premiere of Vloeimans’ brand-new work Innermission.

Inventive, stylish and impossible to pin down.

🎶 Mozart meets Stravinsky in a programme of brilliance, beauty and bold invention.

Award-winning Lithuanian pianist Milda Daunoraite joins Joanna MacGregor and BPO for Stravinsky’s dazzling Concerto for Piano and Wind Instruments — sharp-edged, playful and bursting with rhythmic fire.

Alongside it, Stravinsky’s Symphonies of Wind Instruments offers moments of haunting stillness, before Mozart’s glorious Gran Partita fills Brighton Dome with some of the richest, most radiant wind writing ever composed.

Grand, joyful and utterly sublime.

🎹 Rachmaninoff’s dazzling Rhapsody. Piazzolla in full bloom. Janáček at his most explosive.

We open the season with music bursting with rhythm, virtuosity and colour from across the globe.

Ukrainian piano sensation Khrystyna Mykhailichenko joins Joanna MacGregor and the orchestra for Rachmaninoff’s irresistible Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini — a whirlwind of brilliance, wit and romance, featuring one of classical music’s most beloved melodies.

The programme also features Gershwin’s vibrant Cuban Overture, Piazzolla’s Primavera Porteña with violinist Emily Trubshaw, and Janáček’s electrifying Sinfonietta — a blazing hymn to freedom with one of the greatest brass finales ever written.

🎭 Shostakovich. Stalin. Revolution. Resistance.

We’re joining forces with world-renowned artist and filmmaker William Kentridge for one of the most ambitious events of our season — a live performance of Shostakovich’s monumental Symphony No.10, accompanied by Kentridge’s extraordinary animated film Oh to Believe in Another World.

Using collage, puppets, masks and dreamlike imagery, Kentridge creates a haunting ‘Soviet museum’ exploring oppression, memory and survival — all set against the blistering emotional force of Shostakovich’s music.

Conducted by Joanna MacGregor as part of Brighton Festival 2026, this promises to be a powerful collision of music, theatre, film and political history.
