Founded in 2006 by Pallant House Gallery, Outside In aims to provide opportunities for artists with a desire to create who see themselves as facing a barrier to the art world for reasons including health, disability or social circumstance. The goal of the project is to create a fairer art world which rejects traditional values and institutional judgements about whose work can and should be display

ed. Since its inception, Outside In has engaged more than 5,000 artists traditionally excluded from the mainstream art world, 170,000 audience members and 80 partner organisations nationally. We have held over 30 exhibitions and currently support 2,000 artists. In 2014, we won the prestigious Charity Award in the Arts, Culture and Heritage category. Additionally, Outside In is now able to offer an increasingly international platform for the artists it supports, having taken part in the 2014 Paris Outsider Art Fair, and being on the board of the European Outsider Art Association. The project also runs Outside In: Step Up; a programme providing training for artists who align themselves with the project. Artists on the programme have the opportunity to be trained to lead workshops and to carry out research.

This month's Disability Card Deck feature is 'Care'🌹

Whether you give, receive or negotiate care for yourself and others, care can represent different feelings and experiences for each of us. The reverse of this card asks when care has felt empowering and when it has felt complicated or limiting?

The Disability Card Deck is a project by Outside In artist . We are sharing one card a month from the deck to encourage inclusive and intersectional conversations around neurodivergence and disability with our artists.

The deck contains 48 individually illustrated cards. The reverse of each illustration shares a description, questions and conversational prompts to help with awareness and advocacy.

🔗 Visit 's page to find links to their website and learn more about the deck.

Sajida’s work ‘Tinnitus – Forever Companion’ was exhibited in Outside In’s Seventh National Open Exhibition ‘Shelter’, touring to the New Art Gallery Walsall and Christie’s London (2025-26). The painting is a depiction of her own shelter from the constant noise of long-term tinnitus, protecting herself from the inner noise “by creating an imaginary world full of colour, nature and joy through my art and painting”.

Sajida additionally exhibited at Outside In’s Sixth National Open exhibition ‘Humanity’ (2023) with her ‘This Hijabi Can’ series and has trained to become an Outside In Ambassador. We are excited to be sharing more of Sajida's work throughout June. You can read Sajida's full interview on our website, link in bio 🔗

INSPIRATION: Outside In’s Artist of the Month for June 2026 is Sajida Asif .sajida ✨

A Midlands-based OI artist and Ambassador, Sajida's work explores themes of nature, climate change and botanical landscape. Whether through her ‘Climate Change’ mosaic series or serene, almost storybook-like paintings, there is a surreal quality to Sajida’s imagery. Her flora and fauna come alive within their painted landscapes, jumping out from the canvas to pull the viewer in 🌺

We are excited to be sharing more of Sajida's work throughout June. You can read the full interview with Sajida on our website now, link in bio 🔗
