ies is a space for surprising, fresh and original contemporary art, craft and design. A national and international programme of exhibitions is currently under development. SHOP
The shop specialises in beautiful and practical handmade work and highlight the individual makers and their processes and be available online. We offer a carefully curated selection of ceramics, textiles, jewellery, print, painting and sculpture from Atelier 51’s designer-makers alongside other outstanding artists, craftspeople and designers from Sussex, and across the world. MAKE
The teaching and community programme create and run varied classes for all levels. From porcelain paperclay, wood carving and jewellery making, to sustainable fashion design and drawing on the beach, there is something to inspire all ages and interests. HIRE
The arches are available to hire for community events and local artists and makers; corporate meetings, events and product launches.

Captivating porcelain paintings by Amy Frankie Smith 🌊

Super unique, these seaside souvenirs will remind you of your trip down to the seaside to !
Especially with this 'summer' we've been having so far, these choppy scenes are the perfect way to commemorate it.

The slightly asymmetrical shape and unglazed surface add to the organic feel - they look really lovely as a little collection, or individually!

Amy Frankie Smith creates porcelain lamps and expressive paintings from her studio on Shoreham Beach, near Brighton, Sussex, where the waves and the wind blow into her work. Her beautifully simple designs are brought to life with delicate attention to detail and the precision required to handle the finest of clays, porcelain, resulting in honest forms, as airy and fluid as the sea that inspired them.

Risograph printing is a technique sometimes described as a ‘digital screen printing’. The process is similar to screen printing, but with the convenience of an office copier. It’s known for its vivid colours (that other printers can’t produce) and its specific textures. These machines deliver ‘perfect imperfections’ and provide a cheap and easy method for reproducing work at large quantities, like posters, prints and zines.

With his bold colours, strong graphics and illustrative quality, it's hard to mistake these pieces as anything but the fine work of Jonny Hannah.
He draws from film, music, written word, novels - you name it! - and produces prints in a variety of techniques, as well as collaged works & even more.

Available in store and online!

Born & bred in Dunfermline, Jonny Hannah studied illustration at Liverpool Art School and then the Royal College of Art.
Since graduation in 1998 he has been working both as a commercial designer & illustrator and printmaker, creating wonderful screen printed books, posters and prints for his own Cakes & Ale Press.
Johnny Hannah has had a lifetime passion for music, publishing hand-printed homages to music greats of yesteryear.

THE FRIDAY CRAFT SOCIAL!

Sussex Craft Studio are launching a monthly relaxed art and craft evening at our gallery on the beach.

The first session, on Friday 26 June, will be a different type of Friday night - a chance to slow things down — working with ink in a loose, instinctive way, drawing from still life arrangements of plants, organic forms, and natural textures.

It's a contemporary take on still life — less about precision, more about finding your own mark and visual language. Suitable for all levels. Come along, have a drink, and make something in the middle of a lively Friday night.
