Meet the facilitator! 🔥🔥

We’re absolutely thrilled to have Sam Chittenden returning to Rising Phoenix at the end of January with her brilliant 6 week ‘Introduction to Directing’ course ✨

Sam is an award-winning playwright and director based in Sussex with a plethora of notable credits to her name -

◆ Her musical Clean won Best New Play in 2019, and Outstanding Show in 2021.

◆Sam has been nominated for an Infallibles Award (Sary), selected for 2019 (Metamorphosis) and nominated for 2024 (Chemistry).

◆Sam is a regular director at where her last production was Sarah Ruhl’s version of Eurydice. Last year Sam directed her four-person adaptation of Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.

In 2024 Sam led a cohort of brilliant budding theatre directors through her 6 week course - covering the essentials of rehearsing a piece of theatre and exploring specific areas in the director’s toolkit - all culminating in an incredible showcase, before an audience in Brighton ✨🔥

Are you keen to get into directing but not sure where to start? Perhaps you’ve directed a bit but you’re looking to hone your craft? Could this be the year? 🔥

On 26th January our 6 week ‘Introduction to Directing’ course kicks off and we still have space for you!

Award-winning playwright & director Sam Chittenden is back to guide you through the fundamentals of rehearsing a piece of theatre, with each weekly session covering specific areas in a director’s toolkit ✨

And to top it all off… the course will culminate in a short rehearsal process working with local actors to stage a 10 minute extract as part of a showcase event to an audience in Brighton!

We’re absolutely delighted to have award-winning director & playwright Sam Chittenden returning early next year with this brilliant 6 week Introduction to Directing course.

Thanks to everyone who came along to our November Scratch Night last week! 🔥🧡 Due to a funny turn of events we were unable to run the night in the usual venue…however we were lucky to get to use the instead! Turns out the artwork provided an inspiring backdrop for our evening of creativity ✨

SEEKING SCRIPT SUBMISSIONS!🔥✨ Our Scratch Night is back on Wednesday 26th November and we’ve got a couple of slots left! If you’re writing a script and you’d like to hear an extract of it read aloud and receive some constructive audience feedback, then you’re in the right place!

Deadline for submissions: Fri 14th November
Details: between 10-15 mins of dialogue (max 12-15 pages)
