THE COPPERDOLLAR STORY SO FAR.

Copperdollar is an immersive performance company. A wonderfully vibrant group of artists who will draw their audiences into a theatrical dreamscape, immersing them into a fictional world and collapsing the wall between performer and audience around them. Copperdollar’s award-winning reputation frames visual art in a theatrical setting, both indoors and out. The shows morphs in scale and shape depending on the space, venue and time. The first show was called “Wake the Dead” and a parade called the “Ghost Walk”, which won an award at The Brighton Fringe 2009. The next year Artistic Director, Kt Simpson, was commissioned to create a sideshow for Glastonbury Festival of Performing Arts for the field “The Common”. It was called “Spidora”, a dark and spooky labyrinth which morphed into the entrance of a large scale show/venue with a wonderful real garden called “The Back of Bayond”, which appeared there every year from 2011 and 2016. “The Back of Beyond” was the larger of the shows so far. It took form as an immersive dreamscape, a stunning art installation, with music, immersive performance and interactive digital trickery. The characters encouraged the most playful side of the audience to engage with them and join in their celebratory party. It was also seen at The Brighton Fringe from 2009 to 2015 in different guises and became a hit show running for three years at The Old Market in Brighton over Halloween. Other Copperdollar shows such as “Spidora” and “The Voyage Of La Sibylle” have been seen at: Mintfest; National Theatre ‘Watch this space’ festival; Stockton International Riverside Festival; Gone in 20 minutes showcase at London Spitalfields; Preston Guild; Boomtown; Bestival; Glastonbury town’s ‘Day of the Dead’ at event Imagine Watford; Imaging Luton; The Lost Carnival; Hull Freedom Festival, amongst others.

The company itself shifts and changes with the years. We have been concentrating on getting Copperdollar Studios up and running (check out our Studio page), and we have been taking a break from producing large scale shows for now. Transforming things is what we do best, so between 2016-18 we created a large scale community Day of the Dead event for Basingstoke and toured our street show “The Voyage of La Sibylle” in the summer months. The “Skelly Gals”, a hit act from “The Back of Beyond”, have been out and about every Halloween entertaining some unexpected bystanders. They have also been revisiting their lives before they were Skellie Gals. “The Dime Sisters” - as they are now called - have been playing with new disguises and are on the look out for place and situations in which to come out and entertain, so look out for them. 2020 will see a new show or two hitting there streets in the Summer, so keep a look out...
