Sneaking in with the last photos from our natural dye summer school✨we made good use of the bright bright sunshine 🌞 to make cyanotypes which we toned with natural dyes. We used dock, oak gall and buckthorn bark. Swipe to see the process in reverse. Thanks to Sue Coulson Janet Cawthorne Thomas payne Thomas Payne and Cressida Murray for being such good creative company for the week. Starting today we have the screenprint on paper summer school stay tuned!

From subtle tones to rainbow brights (swipe to see 🌈) More adventures with natural dyes from summer school, this time making and cooking up inks to screenprint on paper - have a look at some of the plants we used! Thanks to Janet Cawthorne Thomas Payne Sue Coulson Thomas payne Cressida Murray for being such enthusiastic participants we’ve had a lot of fun! Will post some photos of our toned cyanotypes tomorrow- it’s been a big studio tidy up today! :)

It’s a wrap! We finished the Screenprint and Collage Summer School this afternoon and here is some of the wonderful work produced. We explored different ways of working with collage in combination with screenprint - the possibilities are endless so these images are just a taste of what was made.

Thank you to Adele, Nicole, Caroline and Graham for being such a great group to work with.

Here are a couple of screenprints on the drying rack from Wednesday evenings’s Screenprint on Paper course.

Returning students Charlie (first image) and Colin (second image) have been working with photographic images, halftones and CMYK separations, exploring what is possible with these techniques and processes.

CMYK is a printing technique using only 4 colours - cyan, magenta, yellow and black - to achieve full-colour images. Although there’s a filter in Photoshop that enables you to turn any colour image into a CMYK halftone, actually achieving a good result in screenprinting takes a bit more time and effort. But that’s why it’s exciting!
