The Howl & The Hum is the acclaimed indie project led by York songwriter Sam Griffiths, renowned for its emotionally rich storytelling, cinematic soundscapes and unforgettable live performances. Blending indie rock, folk and alternative pop with lyrical honesty, the band first broke through with their critically praised debut album Human Contact before returning with the deeply personal Same Mistake Twice.

Their songs explore love, loss, hope and human connection with wit, warmth and striking vulnerability, earning comparisons to artists such as The National, Bon Iver and Frightened Rabbit.

Whether performing intimate acoustic moments or soaring anthems, The Howl & The Hum delivers a live show that is both powerful and deeply affecting.

12 years ago, in the corner of a pub in Brighton we put on the first ever Folklore show - The Folklore Monthly showcase, and the first artist that ever played it was Bess Atwell () 🖤

It was so special welcoming her back to the showcase as our secret guest this month where she performed some new unreleased material alongside some favourites.

The Monthly Showcase returns September 15th and we’ll have another secret guest for you - Who will it be? You’ll just have to be there to find out.

The Folklore Monthly Showcase returns September 15th and we have three more incredible artists for you, of course! 🖤

Hamish (HAMISH) blends soulful indie-pop with folk and contemporary influences, pairing warm vocals with melodic, emotionally driven songwriting, and has supported JP Cooper and Cian Ducrot amongst others.

Our secret guest this month has shared the stage with folk royalty… You’ll need to turn up to find out who it is.

George Bloomfield (George Bloomfield | Artist | Film Composer) blends indie, jazz, funk and psychedelia into a soulful, atmospheric sound, with support from BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Introducing, alongside features in CLASH and other leading music press. He joins us for a full band show. 🫶
