Through ten years of performing together in various shapes and forms, shared experience has cultivated a chemistry and collective passion which has shaped the newly-envisioned music Kingdom Kush create. From busking as a ska band in their teens, gigging UK-wide and internationally with multi-genre electronic band Captain Flatcap and from dancing through many a summer of UK festivals, these experie
nces now lead them to realise their new progressive-soul sound as Kingdom Kush. The Brighton-based four-piece band draws on a medley of classic and modern soul, funk, progressive rock and trip-hop, featuring firmly emotive female soul vocals backed with trumpet, electric guitars, keys, drums and backing electronic production. The band’s debut single Animus portrays a penetrating and striving sense of the human journey which carries pervasively through front-woman Isabel’s lyricism, soulful melodies and firmly emotive voice, sensitively paired with the band’s careful instrumental craft and strong studio-sound. Influences include Fat Freddy’s Drop, Submotion Orchestra, Morcheeba, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Pink Floyd and Dizraeli.
“Kingdom Kush are wondrously dedicated to their musical cause - a perfect square of talent! Isabel Drake's voice is ridiculously textured, her depths feeding parts of us that crave to be fed, delivering the message so perfectly! Just beautiful.” - Anna Mac Nanna. Kingdom Kush is:
Isabel Drake - vocals. Tom Rotherham - trumpet, guitar, producer. Harry Travis - guitar, keys.
