Running an independent Art Gallery is challenging. Be kind to people that work in retail. Independent businesses are often built around people. There isn’t always a big team behind the scenes or someone else to step in.

People that work in retail should be respected.

Rhythm In Art 2026 - OPEN CALL!

Rhythm is everywhere.

It lives in music, movement and sound, but it can also be found in nature, in repetition, in the changing seasons, in waves, footsteps, breathing and the rhythm of everyday life.

Rhythm in Art explores how artists interpret and respond to these rhythms in their own unique ways. For some, rhythm may be influenced by music the beat, tempo, repetition or emotion of a particular sound. For others, it may emerge through colour, line, shape, texture and movement.

Nature has its own rhythm too: the rise and fall of the tide, the movement of leaves in the wind, the cycles of growth and decay, day becoming night. These natural patterns can influence the way an artist sees and creates.

There is no single rhythm in art. Each artist finds their own.

This exhibition brings together different interpretations of rhythm, inviting us to look beyond the finished artwork and consider the movement, energy and influences that flow through it.

Our workshops are about giving people the space, materials and freedom to create. There’s no right or wrong way to make art and no need for perfection. Just the opportunity to experiment, get absorbed in the process and see where your creativity takes you.

We’re so proud to be a placement provider for the University of Brighton and absolutely love welcoming students into the Liberation Art Gallery family. ❤️

Students bring such incredible energy, creativity and fresh perspectives to the Gallery and they genuinely become a huge asset to what we do.

This time, we’re especially excited to welcome Evie, a recent Illustration graduate from the University of Brighton, who has successfully secured a paid internship with Liberation Art Gallery! 🎨✨

Evie says:

“Liberation’s unique community and wellbeing-driven approach to a gallery space has been such a nourishing environment to work in. It’s allowed me to utilise the skills and interests I developed during my degree within a flourishing professional gallery community. It has been such a valuable experience and I have loved every moment!”

We’re so happy to have you with us, Evie! 💛

Creating opportunities. Opening doors. Supporting the next generation of creatives.

That’s what Liberation is about. 🌱

Thank you to the University of Brighton for helping make these opportunities possible.

Higher ground by Lucy Bristow

“I have always painted as a way of expression, it is as essential to me as breathing. I paint
something which moves me or excites me. The act of painting is totally absorbing and I get lost in
the colour mixing and applications.

This process takes 100 percent of my concentration and suspends me in a timeless world. I feel
calm and purposeful when I am there.“

Lucy now has a gorgeous new piece at the gallery (second image) and we are honoured to exhibit her work ❤️
