CHADIK Children's Health and Development in Kenya These clinics provide crucial medical care to mothers and children who would otherwise go unseen and untreated.

CHADIK a new and exciting UK based charity that has taken on the critical collaboration with Gertude’s Children’s Hospital in Nairobi to fund vital Outreach Clinics in desperately poor and isolated rural communities. We are working hard to prevent the unnecessary suffering that results from this lack of basic medical care.

At the start of 2022, I’m very pleased to announce that Chadik is alive and well. Having established our support for the Youth Cancer Awareness Programme run by The Gertrudes Children’s Hospital, we received reports on 15 diagnosed and treated children
Our agreement is to pay for any child selected by social services as needing financial support for the diagnostic tests or for transport when necessary
This fulfils our mission to help disadvantaged lids

Although we do not appear to have had much activity since our film show, we have been very busy behind scenes. Our local organising committee decided not to have an autumn dinner but to hold a Murder Mystery evening in February.
Several possible plays were discussed and the final choice was The Great British Bump Off performed by the Hadlow Down amateur theatrical group.

Thanks to the owners of Hendall Manor Barns, the play will be performed on February 22nd in the big dining area. A three course meal will be served between the acts and customers will be greeted with a welcome drink Tickets have been snapped up locally so the every seat was sold by last week. Now we hope the evening plus raffle will really boost our income.

We are watching with great interest the progress of Gertrude's Children's hospital in setting up the Cancer Awareness programme. Having set up a budget allowing different sponsors to select which aspect they are most interested in, the latest report is they are about a fifth of the way to raising the KsH 40 million needed. In the meantime we are continuing with the out reach clinics.
This being the last year for our sponsored students in the Kisima mixed secondary school, their latest letters have shown their appreciation of the support from CHADIK and the Lawes Foundation. They will come back from the summer holiday to take their final exams and we wish them all success. Two of them are interested in studying medicine in the UK and are looking for scholarships to achieve this end.
Our local team are actively looking into ideas for a fund raiser in early 2020 as our monthly donations plus a generous grant will bring in just under £10,000 p.a. with Gift Aid where we need £15,000 to maintain our outreach clinics. We are so grateful for the support from our regular supporters every month. A big thank you.

Although it appears that all is quiet on the CHADIK front, much has been going on behind scenes.
First of all, we are steadily filling up seats for our film show "Dance with wolves" which we are showing on Sunday August 4th at the Buxted Park hotel. We still have room for some people so don't hesitate to get in touch. If you have seen it before, it is well worth seeing again. Contact [email protected]

While we are still supporting Gertrude's children's hospital with the outreach clinics, we are expecting to switch over in the future to support their Cancer Awareness Campaign. Cancer in the young is on the increase in Kenya so this new enterprise is being developed with the Kenyan Government and being supported by a number of sponsors.

Please put the date for the film evening in your diary. It is always a good time to relax with a drink and watch a really good film. Every penny goes to our projects. See you on August 4th at the Buxted Park Hotel

The constant cry nowadays seems to be "where has the time gone" This is also true for CHADIK as immediately a fund raiser is over than we are looking ahead for new ideas. The Buxted dinner was a great success due to many donors who could not attend but boosted our funds. The people who did come had a great evening.
For me, following on the busy Kenya trip, has been keeping open communication such as writing the newsletter which has now been circulated to our supporters and will soon be on our website.
I was very sad to hear today that the very first project leader from when we set up the outreach clinics with Gertrude's in 2008 has died unexpectedly. We were then part of Kijani Kenya Trust and she helped us set everything up, always coming up with new ideas. When we moved away to form CHADIK she was delighted.
We are looking at a possible new project with Gertrude's looking at childhood cancer which apparently is increasing too fast in Kenya. At the same time we are coming to the end of our four year support of the Kisima mixed secondary school. If only we had the funds to carry on. Anyone know a really rich philanthropist who loves kids??

It is with great relief that we have enough people coming to our fund raising spring dinner on March 20th. So many of our regular supporters are unable to come this year for very good reasons but we have been promised quite a number of donations instead.
Should anyone wish to join us we have up to Saturday to tell the Buxted Inn our final numbers SO think again whether you would not like a very convivial evening in a very good cause

I am sure you have all been as shocked as I have at the murderous attack on the hotel in Nairobi. Thank goodness so many people were taken to safety but our thoughts must be with the injured and bereaved.

My next visit to Kenya starts on Feb 14th when I will be meeting with the CEO of Gertrude's to discuss our future plans for CHADIK. We are currently holding discussions with other bigger charities to see whether we can be taken under their umbrella to maintain our valuable outreach clinics.

I will also be visiting the Kisima mixed secondary boarding school to meet up with the ten students we have been jointly funding withe the Lawes Foundation. This is their last year and we will not be funding a further cohort due to our weaker financial situation. The school came 7th in the country after the leaving exams in November which is a brilliant result.

Finally I will return to Nanyuki to see whether I can link up with another charity called CHAT also working in the region.

I am going to be staying in the Muthaiga club in Nairobi and the Thompson Falls Hotel near the Kisima school both of which have good security. The people I work with are so supportive of our work so it it is good to meet them face to face.

Thank you all for your support

Everything is moving so fast at the moment it is difficult to keep all our wonderful supporters informed. The Board held a teleconference recently to discuss ways and means of raising more money for our projects. We are delighted to have received a big donation from the Pat Newman Trust Currently we have enough funds in hand to keep our vital outreach projects going in the near future
but are looking for other partners to boost our income

Our next fund raising event will be another film show on January 27th in the Buxted Hotel again

24/04/2018

Come to the family fun day on June 10th is our big drive at the moment. Already we are gathering support for our book, cake and bric a brac tables, we have some newly loved clothes and getting lots of ideas for the kiddies corner and safari hunt
Please note that we have increased the hours from 1-5 pm to allow plenty of time of the swimming and the bouncy castle. For adults buying some food and drink and listening to the Victory V's singing under the cover of the big barn if it rains should be very appealling. See you there .

13/02/2018

For those of you who follow the activity of our charity, please go to our website www.chadik.org.uk where the latest news will soon be posted Following on the success of our second film night where we took well over £400, comes our spring dinner
My next visit is planned for September after the Kisima school spring holiday and as usual I will be paying for my travel. Unlike many other charities, we take nothing out for overheads so that every penny is paid to our projects,

27/11/2017

Following on the success of our first film evening, we are holding a second such an evening on Sunday February 4th at our local Buxted Hotel. This time we will be showing "Born Free" which we hope to introduce by a cutting from BBC i-player showing how the film was made. For details look under Events.

I will be going back to Kenya in January to visit our projects but am very concerned about the unstable political situation out there. It will take a lot to stop me as the children we try to help are so important for the future of the country.
