No school day on Wednesday’s here so a chance to be tourists 😍. We visited the striking geological landscape of Les Orgues in Ille Sur Tet. Towers with hats on; walls that looked like church organs and other other worldly stuff oh and the friendliest black fluffy cat who looked just like our Wallee who has retired to Sam’s folks 🐈‍⬛

Lavender and Eucalyptus festive wreath - all trimmings from the garden ❤️. Felt good to do something creative and connect to this time of year in a positive way. As it’s been pretty manic work / life wise and as per usual I’ve been feeling caught up in the run up stress of it all. Happens every year no matter how organised or not as the case may be. Love it when it all slots into place though, but could do without the consumer pressure. Just the food, family, friends and games please ❤️❤️❤️

What’s your favourite tea at the moment?
I love All teas All year round but particularly loving mint ( fresh or dried) with fresh lemon - giving off some refreshing but warming summer vibes ☀️🌞☀️

This little tea corner in the kitchen was made using reclaimed ( out of a skip 🤩) roofing joists and smaller scaff planks as I recall.

The perfect dedicated area to my love of tea drinking ❤️

The cat, the cosy bedding and the books makes my bedroom my favourite room in the house. A calm sanctuary 🌻

I’ve reads loads of amazing books over the last year. Here are some which I thoroughly recommend - Girl Woman Other by Bernadine Evaristo; Boy swallows Universe by Trent Dalton ; All the books by Alexander McCall Smith set in Botswana are just wonderful gentle and humorous; Likewise anything by Maggie O’Farrell I’ve loved; Both An American Marriage and Silver Sparrow by Tayari Jones are great current reads; Libertie by Kaitlyn Greenidge is a beautiful masterpiece as is Washington Black by Esi Edugyan.

What have you read and loved? I’m in need of some recommendations to order from the library now they are open again - another favourite place of mine ❤️

Does anybody else wish that learning the basics of how to grow flowers, herbs, veggies & fruit was taught at school 🌻🥕🍓. Wish I’d learnt that kind of thing when I was younger. Growing still feels like such pot luck. This year our garden has totally surprised me as plants have returned after thinking they were well and truly gone. Still a mystery but appreciating some small arrangements of Ox Eye Daisy’s, lemon balm and lavender in the house to bring in some fresh summer vibes. Hope everyone has a gorgeous weekend 😘❤️

After reading ‘s post about environmentally conscious renovations /decorating a space and trying to positively influence some concerning attitudes in the interior design world (similar to that of the pressures with physical appearance) that things should be perfect; latest trends or authentically traditional then they are not seen as beautiful can be harmful and wasteful.
The post really struck a cord and I thought I would share some of our kitchen ideas from when we renovated to encourage people to aim for ‘good enough’ and / or your version of beauty - in all areas of our life right 🙌( listened to podcast yesterday interviewing dr Olives Remes where they discussed just that)

Second hand:

- [ ] Wall cabinet ( 1950’s gumtree £10. Needed a clean and fresh coat of paint)
- [ ] White ceramic Sink - from gumtree - small chip in the ceramic
- [ ] Wall units on the other side of the kitchen ( eBay )
- [ ] Light shades ( eBay )

Repurposed / kept:

- [ ] Base units - we reused the the original carcasses
- [ ] Kept the oven and hob

New:

- [ ] Doors made from wood which we got a carpenter to make and fit and we painted.
- [ ] Handles
- [ ] Solid wood worktop - large uncut to size piece then cut and fitted by our carpenter - worked out about £250 for both sides of the kitchen incl the splash back trim.

For us (luckily - as we couldn’t afford it 😆) it wasn’t about getting this super finished perfect look it was more about the over all feel and design.

Scratch beneath the surface and think outside the box and you can save a lot of money and also feel good about reducing the amount of waste produced 😊✊

In ❤️❤️ with my new house plant Anthurium Cavali and the beautiful green textured plant pot it came in - top left. It was a pressie from one of my boys ❤️ I always feel pretty overwhelmed getting cards or gifts from my kids. I don’t expect them and I’m not at all bothered if I don’t get any but when they do happen it’s just a lovely little acknowledgment. Will bring me lots of joy looking after this one.
Quick break from the sunshine to water all the indoor plants - don’t forget y’all

This old chair has been fixed too many times to remember but those twists, turns and grains of wood, the natural beauty and all that work gone into create a simple everyday object makes it impossible for me to replace with something more ‘reliable’!

Now it’s role in life is somewhat safer and more sedate ‘the wear again chair’! Clothes from the day clean enough to wear again the next day 😆 👌
