Pre-performance. How great would it be if you could bottle this feeling! That gorgeous mix of nerves and excitement. Last little chats, deep breaths, and jokes. Being part of a choir is such a special thing. It’s not just about standing in a line and singing songs. It’s about working hard together towards something, supporting each other if nerves kick in, sharing that little squeeze of the hand before you walk out. When someone wobbles, we carry her. When we’re confident, we soar, and when the harmonies lock in there’s nothing quite like it!

Hooked On Harmony were performing at the Civic Afternoon Tea in Hornsea yesterday, which was raising money for Hornsea NCI and Hornsea Inshore Rescue. A great time was had by all - here's our highs mids & lows with our musical director Jasmin.

We contributed towards The Cllr Elaine Young - working for Hornsea’s Civic Afternoon Tea. The ladies of Hooked On Harmony were happy to contribute their time and talent for these worthy causes.

Choirs aren’t just about singing - they’re about humans. People walk in as strangers and, over time, become friends. At first you may not know anyone else in the room but before long you're laughing in the break, checking in on each other, sharing lifts, celebrating birthdays, supporting each other through life’s ups and downs. Real friendships are built here.

🎶"We are warming up our voices" we sing 🎶So why do we do vocal warm ups at the start of our sessions?

To protect the voice - Just like stretching before exercise, it prevents injury. Warm-ups gently prepare the voice reducing strain and lowering risk of hoarseness or vocal damage.

To improve tone quality - Helping find resonance and clarity for fuller sounding notes and more controlled rather than tight or breathy singing.

To strengthen breath control - Focusing on breathing helps singers sustain longer phrases, and learn to avoid running out of breath mid-line.

To expand vocal range - Gentle scales stretch your upper and lower range helping to you reach those high and low notes.
