🩰 Dance Term Lesson: Plié

What is a plié?

The word plié comes from French and means “to bend.”

In ballet and many other dance styles, a plié is the bending of the knees.

✨ Why is it important?

• Builds strength and control • Absorbs landings from jumps • Improves balance and coordination • Creates smooth, fluid movement

There are two main types: 🔹 Demi-Plié: a small bend of the knees 🔹 Grand Plié: a deeper bend of the knees

💡 Fun Fact: Almost every ballet step begins and ends with a plié, making it one of the most fundamental movements in dance!
