Character profile time - and this week, we're heading into the cornfield.
Meet the Scarecrow.
For someone who's convinced he hasn't got a brain, the Scarecrow has rather a lot of good ideas - he spots things others miss, he works things out. He's the one Dorothy trusts to help her find her way.
This December, Northern Duck Productions bring the Scarecrow and all his friends to The Bradford Playhouse for a brand new panto adventure. 🌈

Here's something worth knowing about The Bradford Playhouse: the site this building stands on has been a place of gathering and performance since 1837. The Art Deco frontage you see today dates from 1937 - rebuilt after a devastating fire, reopened with a world stage première of a J. B. Priestley play, and home to theatre ever since.
On 15th July, you can walk through it with someone who knows its story inside out. Our guided tour as part of the Bradford Heritage Festival starts at 12:30pm and takes you through nearly a century of Bradford theatre history.

It's a play about leadership and the stories we tell ourselves to justify the things we do. About ordinary people caught up in extraordinary events not of their own making. About glory - and the very high price of it.
ACT's production opens at The Bradford Playhouse on 18th June, and it's exactly the kind of theatre this stage was built for.

On 15th July at 1:45pm, as part of the Bradford Heritage Festival, you're invited to come and spend time with it all. Our Archive Session is hands-on, informal and genuinely fascinating - the kind of afternoon where you sit down to look at one thing and come up for air two hours later.

On Wednesday 15th July, as part of the Bradford Heritage Festival, we're opening up The Bradford Playhouse for a proper guided tour. Behind the scenes, through all our backstage spaces, into the corners that audiences don't usually get to see.
Nearly a century of stories live in this building, from Winifred Priestley and her slightly more famous brother founding the Bradford Civic Playhouse Company in 1929, to the Art Deco rebuild of 1937, to Esmé Church's extraordinary years training a generation of actors who would go on to shape British theatre and beyond - this place has history in every wall.
