Impressions Gallery A charity that helps people understand the world through photography and acts as an agent for change. We believe photography is for everyone.

As one of the first specialist photography galleries in the country, we have played a vital role in changing the way people think about photography. We continue to support and encourage ground-breaking artists who challenge and change photography. We present world-class exhibitions that explore issues such as identity, race, gender and politics. We showcase new and recent work, as well as historic

al photography outside the mainstream. We work with our communities and support learning at all levels. All our exhibitions and the vast majority of our events are free.

🌿 Everything in the forest is the forest: Photography, Connection and Ecology Symposium 🌿

The symposium will be shaped around the values of the forest researched by Clare Hewitt whilst working with The Birmingham Institute of Forest Research (). The forest nurtures, feeds, and teaches.

Bringing together speakers from different disciplines to exchange knowledge and skills across generations, share a community meal and create a space for discussions and connections.

A fantastic first week of our offsite exhibition at South Square!

We have had nearly 600 visitors to 'Costing the Earth' 🎉

A big thank you to all those who came to celebrate the launch on World Environment Day and everyone who came to see the exhibition during the Thornton Art Trail. It was an amazing weekend full of insightful conversations.

Come and see the amazing work of Mandy Barker, Alice Fox, Hannah Lamb and Atiyya Mirza at South Square until Sunday 30 August. Free entry.

🌏 Costing the Earth 🌍

It’s World Environment Day on Friday 5 June, so come and join us for the official exhibition opening of Costing the Earth, 6pm to 9pm. All are welcome!

An Impressions Gallery offsite exhibition in partnership with South Square Centre.

Costing the Earth aims to highlight the harmful environmental impact of fast fashion and the small actions we can take to make a positive difference.

The exhibition presents the work of Mandy Barker, Alice Fox, Hannah Lamb and Atiyya Mirza and explores the different ways contemporary artists are responding to the climate crisis.

Continues until Sunday 30 August. FREE entry.

Join us to celebrate the opening of ‘Costing the Earth’, our new offsite exhibition in partnership with South Square Centre, Thornton 🎉

‘Costing the Earth’ aims to highlight the harmful environmental impact of fast fashion and the small actions we can take to make a positive difference.  

Presenting work by Mandy Barker, Alice Fox, Hannah Lamb and Atiyya Mirza, Costing the Earth explores different ways contemporary artists are responding to the climate crisis. Each of the featured artists works with recycled or sustainably sourced materials to create photographic, sculptural, and textile artworks.

🖼 Clare Hewitt: Everything in the forest is the forest

‘Everything in the forest is the forest’ presents 14 bodies of work that celebrate trees' remarkable ability to nurture and communicate, and offers a wealth of insights on how we, as a society, can gain from the unity, communities and relationships found within the forest.

The exhibition is accompanied by an immersive sound recording of the dawn chorus in the forest, made in collaboration with musician Professor Annie Mahtani.
