Next Saturday at Craft Festival Wales / Gwyl Grefft Cymru with Glen K. Johnson - The History Man Book Now

On Saturday September 12th at 2pm, as part of Craft Festival Wales, I'll be giving a one-off talk in the Tower Room at Cardigan Castle entitled 'Drawing Conclusions', which is about learning history from art, and making art from history. The talk will be illustrated with various prints, paintings, engravings and sketches from the Cardigan Castle Collections. Hope to see you there!

This summer, three major cultural organisations came together to celebrate Welsh creativity, making and cultural heritage in the heart of Cardigan.⁠
⁠
To mark the return of the National Eisteddfod to West Wales, Craft Festival Wales presents Aur/Gold, a landmark exhibition created in partnership with the National Eisteddfod and Oriel Canfas.⁠
⁠
Aur/Gold celebrates past Gold Medal winners from Y Lle Celf, bringing together some of the most acclaimed makers and artists working in Wales today. The exhibition coincides with the National Eisteddfod at Y Garreg Las, just outside Cardigan, and continues through to the closing weekend of Craft Festival Wales at Cardigan Castle.⁠

Curated by artist Suzi Park and Craft Festival Director, Sarah James MBE, Aur/Gold showcases exceptional talent across ceramics, metal, textiles, silver, glass and fine art, highlighting the extraordinary legacy of Y Lle Celf and the enduring importance of Welsh craft and fine art.⁠
⁠
The exhibition also forms part of celebrations marking the 850th anniversary of the first recorded Eisteddfod, held at Cardigan Castle in 1176 by Lord Rhys, making this a particularly significant cultural moment for the town and for Wales.⁠

Over the Summer, to celebrate 850 years of the first Eisteddfod at Cardigan Castle, a magnificent theatre performance celebrating the journey of the Lord Rhys, travelled around Ceredigion and came home to the Castle just before the Eisteddfod Y Garreg Las in August.⁠

We're delighted that Creative Director, Professor Marc Rees Marc Rees, the artistic director of the acclaimed 850th anniversary celebration of the first Eisteddfod staged in the very place where the Craft Festival is held. During his talk, Marc will take you behind the scenes of this landmark project, tracing its journey from initial concept and creative development to realisation and reflection.⁠

The Calico Dress at Craft Festival Wales ⁠

Join artist and teacher Menna Buss in the Castle Kitchen and become part of the Calico Dress Project, an evolving, collaborative artwork and sister piece to the internationally celebrated Red Dress. ⁠

Visitors are invited to contribute their own mark, story or stitch, adding their voice to a powerful shared textile.⁠

You can sign up in The Kitchen in Castle Green House on the day to join Menna in a FREE stitching workshop to add your contribution.⁠
