🐊 A new chapter for Munchkin! 💚

We have some very exciting news to share… Munchkin is moving to a brand-new home 🏠 🐊

Our much-loved dwarf African crocodile will soon be making the move to on Wednesday 02 September where a brand-new, custom-built crocodile house has been created especially for her.

As Munchkin continues to grow, so do her needs. Her wellbeing will always be our number one priority, and this move will ensure she continues to have an environment that can meet her needs as she gets bigger.

Munchkin is a much-loved member of the Oceanarium family, and we know our visitors will miss seeing her here too so we hope you get a chance to give her a good send off before she embarks on a new chapter💚

And there’s one more thing… 👀

What will happen to Munchkin’s current home here at the Oceanarium?

We’re not quite ready to reveal that yet… but we’ll have an update coming soon!

Alongside conservation and animal care, education plays a vital role at the Oceanarium.🌍👩‍🏫

As a member of , we embed a conservation education framework that hopes to inspire the public's respect for wildlife. We deliver structured school programs, and hope to connect communities through shared conservation and sustainability goals.

Since opening in 1998, education has been one of our leading roles. Since then we have welcomed over 200,000 students of all ages, from local schools, those further afield nationally, and even schools on an international scale.

Some of the schools who choose to visit, have done so every year, for multiple years in a row. We also accommodate home-education groups too! This year we have welcomed 3,346 students so far, and we'd like to thank all those for choosing the Oceanarium for your 2026 field trips.

We are delighted to announce that Ellie our Aquatics Supervisor has won the BIAZA invertebrate photography award, with a photo of our porcelain crab. Join us in congratulating her! 🎉

Our tiny porcelain crab resides in our coral nursery, so be on the look out next time you visit. 👀 They reach a maximum size of approximately 1.5cm - 2.5cm.
