We’re looking forward to a fantastic day of live music, dance and everything we can fit onto our community stage. We hope to welcome you to the Springwood Festival on 14 March.
Mike Harding calls Daria Kulesh “one of the finest voices and one of the most intriguing and interesting songwriters on the present folk scene.”
Her debut Eternal Child was described as “phenomenal”. Long Lost Home earned rave reviews and multiple awards, including LCM Album of the Year. Earthly Delights was named “one of the year’s finest albums” by Folk Radio UK. Her latest release MotherLand is hailed as “near perfect” and “astonishing” by Liverpool Sound and Vision.
Daria has toured widely across the UK and Europe, sharing songs that are deeply personal yet universal. Performances are described as “emotional, compelling and uplifting”, leaving audiences “completely spellbound”.
Born in Russia and based in the UK for 15 years, she explores her heritage and family history in Ingushetia with songs that, as FATEA says, “aren’t just sung, but lived”.
What reviewers say about MotherLand:

Inspired by both traditional and contemporary folk, Antoine & Owena create an original blend of music that feeds the ears, heart and feet. Their sound brings together Owena Archer’s expressive folk‑violin style with Antoine Architeuthis’s folk‑rock guitar and bouzouki rhythms, producing an eclectic mix of original and traditional material shaped by history, tragedy, love and hope. Their songwriting is rooted in storytelling—praised as “well‑constructed and convincingly told” by Living Tradition and simply “Brilliant” by Folking.com. Their interpretations of traditional songs remain sympathetic to the originals while offering fresh, contemporary tunes.
Born and raised in Doncaster, Antoine performed in several bands across rock and progressive genres before finding his home in folk music. He has supported acts including Alabama 3 and Blackbud, and later moved into writing and performing original folk material as a solo artist. He has appeared at a wide range of festivals both solo and with various bands.
Owena Archer has been part of the folk scene for over twenty years, composing her own tunes and contributing harmonising fiddle parts to several successful folk bands. She has shared stages with Oysterband, Show of Hands, Megson, Nancy Kerr & James Fagan, and Cara Dillon & Sam Lakeman, and has played numerous festivals and guested at many folk clubs.
Soon after they began performing together, they entered the Purbeck Rising competition at Purbeck Valley Folk Festival in 2017, won it, and were booked for multiple festivals and headline concerts as a result. Since then, they have supported many of their folk heroes, including Martin & Eliza Carthy, Dave Pegg, Jez Lowe, Oysterband and others.
They have released three studio albums and perform regularly at folk clubs and festivals across the country.

SpRingwood. Our 1 day spring folk festival is on Saturday 14th March.
This is the second in our series of headline artist profiles to introduce you to our amazing line up.

Born under a solstice moon in late‑80s Birmingham, Chris Cleverley grew up surrounded by the sounds of Hunky Dory, Graceland and Ladies of the Canyon. Three decades later, he’s now one of the most distinctive voices in modern folk, with five acclaimed records and praise from The Times, The Telegraph and BBC 6 Music. Twice named FATEA’s Male Artist of the Year, he’s been described as “one of the most vital voices of his Folk generation”.
Chris’s boundary‑pushing “Dream‑Folk” blends powerful storytelling with themes of displacement, nature, love, grief and empathy. His songs carry listeners from Syrian deserts to Cretan coastlines, creating an immersive journey that feels both intimate and expansive. Over ten years of touring, he’s built a loyal following and appeared at major events including Cambridge Folk Festival and English Folk Expo.
A mesmerising guitarist, his fingerstyle playing draws comparisons to Elliott Smith, Sufjan Stevens, John Martyn and Nic Jones — a tapestry of 60s folk revival and 90s lo‑fi influences. His live shows balance calm, humour and emotional depth, often described as part concert, part meditation.
His 2019 album We Sat Back and Watched It Unfold earned national acclaim and his first FATEA award. Live From The Glass Isle followed in 2021, recorded at the foot of Glastonbury Tor. In 2022, Broadcast The Secret Verse marked a bold shift into lo‑fi indie folk and ambient textures, hailed as “frighteningly brilliant” and named one of the best albums of the year. His 2024 release, In the Shadow of John the Divine, offered a beautifully off‑beat take on Christmas music, praised by No Depression as “holiday music that doesn’t suck”.
Alongside his solo work, Chris continues to write, produce and collaborate through First Original Music, working with artists including Awake Mother and Minnie Birch.

As we prepare for 'Springwood' folk festival on Saturday 14th March 2026 we want to introduce you to the headline acts with artist profiles. Links to their website and a ticket link for the festival are at the end of the profile.

Suthering are a fearless, q***r duo whose emotionally charged songwriting tackles politics, mental health, feminism and LGBTQ+ rights with warmth, humour, and unshakable honesty.

"Suthering brings together a joyous blending of voices and musical talents of Julu Irvine and Heg Brignall. Delicate, harmonious and thoroughly English, Suthering is a welcome arrival on the vibrant English folk scene"
- Terry O'Brien, Folk Expo

After years of relentless touring, sold-out shows across the UK and appearances at major festivals, Suthering have built a reputation for exceptional live performances. Powerful storytelling is at the heart of their live shows, with songs that hit to the core of what it means to be human. Immaculate vocal harmonies and spellbinding moments of a ca****la — woven through piano, fingerstyle guitar, whistles and flutes — regularly bring rooms to pin-drop silence.

Their 2024 album Leave A Light On, produced by Sean Lakeman, marked a bold evolution in sound, blending pop and indie influences with their folk roots. Described by national press as “absolutely spellbinding,” the album draws on personal experience and modern protest. Lead single Maggie, written in response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, is a powerful call for bodily autonomy.

“Excellent musicians, beautiful harmonies and a fresh approach to traditional music”

- Tony Birch, FATEA Magazine ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Beyond the stage, Julu and Heg are the founders of Tavistock Pride, using their music and platform to champion LGBTQ+ communities and other marginalised voices.

Currently writing their third studio album, Suthering continue to work tirelessly for protest, pride and belonging.
