Pastel Portrait of the lyricist Bernie Taupin

I recently purchased some pastel pencils and thought about doing a portrayal of Elton John to try and do justice to the vibrant colours in the box. I then thought about one of my favourite songs by EJ which is called "The Greatest Discovery" which has beautiful lyrics written by Bernie Taupin .. with this in mind I then scouted around for some reference photos of BT. I then found a few which I then took reference from in order to produce the portrait.

Added in local sayings of the cross for the shopping precinct to tie it all in and just feature the lovely wee town all in one image

Wings of time

I have grown up all my life listening to a band called Rush, I am what u call a devout fan, thier lyrics are powerful and meaningful and I live my life by them. Thier recent album , " clockwork angels" instilled many powerful emotions that spill over into my art in recent times. In this one we reflect on the time we have here. The celestial clock being our lives, the time we have and the wings being the freedom we have to choose who we want to be. It's bright and colourful to represent this world as it is and how everyone should see it over the darkness that can sometimes shadow our lives. This is a combination of love, life and music and above all freedom

Unbowed

I painted this work in 2023, shortly after arriving in England.
One day, I visited Salisbury Cathedral, where I saw a large bouquet of sunflowers. Standing quietly in the cathedral, I found myself thinking about my homeland, my family, and my friends. Looking at those sunflowers filled me with a deep sense of warmth, hope, and comfort.
I took a photograph of the bouquet, and later, using it as a reference, I created this painting.
These sunflowers have weathered the storm. Their petals have been tousled by the wind, while the dark, post-storm sky still holds the memory of the tempest. Yet they remain standing. Despite everything, they have not lost their strength, their light, or their radiant beauty.
This painting is about resilience, about the inner sun that continues to shine, even after life's fiercest storms.

Gran's Camellia

Windsor Newton water colour with acrylic pen on paper.
This was paint for my husband in memory of his beautiful Grandmother Dorothy. She was the loveliest lady you could ever wish to meet, who never spoke a bad word, supplied everyone with infinite cups of tea and slices of cake. We have her Camellia tree planted in our garden and it has huge pink double blooms.

I can see the wood for the trees

Windsor Newton water colour on paper.
Painted this picture as a gift for my friend who has had a really tough time the last 6 months, so I hope she likes it? It's a view of trees from above; If you change your perspective of a problem or situation you can usually see a way forward?? you can then see the wood for the trees.
