It's been a BUSY few months in this tornado of a life, hence the lack of postings for the pleasure of your seeings, but I'm kicking it back off with this one! It's a little post I made for this months , the drawing night I host. This month we'll be doodling on Plant Pots! 🪴🌵🌱

I'm currently putting together cohesive sets of mockups of the logo projects I've worked on lately too, so I'll be posting those very shortly, then I won't leave it so long again next time! Currently mooching about in Berlin though, so back on the grind when I get back next week! 🫡

I've been pretty excited lately because this coming week is the return of a drink and draw night that I host, called Pen Pals.

I was all going great until Covid ruined everything, but we're picking back up where we left off. We've found a new home in and & will be spinning records for our ears to enjoy!

Go and have a look if you like 👀

CM & AJ Properties is a small residential property development company based in Manchester, UK.

Carolyn and her son, Andrew, have recently started the company after selling an extremely successful estate and letting agency which had been well known for over 30 years. With a vast amount of experience in the industry, it was important to them that the logo conveyed a sense of knowledge, expertise and trustworthiness. The logo was mainly to be used for letterheads, email signatures and business cards, as most of their clients would be acquired through group networking events.

Their previous company was centered around student lettings, and had a friendly, local, cheerful feel to it, whereas CM & AJ Properties is aimed at professionals, so it required a less jovial personality. They wanted logo that was classic, not too outlandish, but with a clever feature included somewhere within it. I used a strong, bold typeface for the lettering to convey trustworthiness, and decided to create a custom ampersand which would fit nicely with the chosen typeface and would allow me to build something clever into it. As they're in the business of linking their clients to locations, I created an ampersand where the bottom part represents an area, and the top part represents a location pointer.

When choosing a colour scheme, I took inspiration from their previous business, which used a mid-blue and mid-green. I wanted to use these colours as a nod to their history, so I chose more mature shades of the same two colours to suit the character of their new venture.

Island Life, based on the Isle Of Wight in the UK, are a micro craft brewery who needed a logo and six can label designs for their first run, to be launched in November 2021 and sold exclusively through their website.

Glenn, the business owner, came to me with specific ideas. His vision was for the identity to be based around 'Castaway', ' Treasure Island' and 'Paradise island' themes. A current, common trend in the craft beer market is labels featuring loud, super colourful illustrations, however Glenn wanted his identity to be more low-key in terms of design and colour, and he was keen to ensure that the logo I created was featured as a focal point.

To differentiate the beers, I designed a cohesive set of six individual icons using bold, solid, simple linework - the idea coming from researching old wooden cargo crate stamps. I coloured these accordingly, to suit the names of the different beers.

Go check them out at: islandlifebrewery.co.uk (Website not by me)

Red Ant Lab is a TV & Film post-production company based in Bournemouth, who were looking for a logo.

Mark, the owner, had already put a lot of thought into the kinds of feelings he wanted his logo to elicit from his potential clients. Recurrent keywords and phrases were 'scientific', 'attention to detail', 'edgy', 'striking' and 'retro-futurist'. The only colours he wanted to use in the logo were red and white, and he wanted to involve an ant, although he wasn't sure if the legs would pose an issue, as they tend to be thin and spindly.

He was looking for something that could be used as a logomark and logotype separately as well as together, and he also mentioned that he found things grouped into threes quite satisfying. With all these things in mind, I set out to create a clean, simple, striking logo.

We explored using a conical flask, and I thought It'd work really well, as the red triangular shape is common in important road signs, which need to grab the attention of motorists passing quickly, therefore we're already conditioned to be attentive to these. As the company name is quite lengthy, I decided to stack the words, creating a 3x3 square, which would also appeal to Mark's penchant for trios.

I decided to use simple linework, keeping the legs bold, and connecting them to the conical flask to create a solid, consistent, distinctive logo which can be easily used across many different mediums and applications.

Just knocked up this badge design and ordered some promotional stickers, because we all love stickers don't we? 🙌

For my name I used a typeface called 'Pour & Destroy', created by the awesome .cactus.studio
Go spy on his Instagram, his work's pretty delightful 👌

Maybe you recognise this from my stories a few weeks back, maybe you don't. If not though, I totally forgive you. It was ages ago to be fair.

'Potheads' are one of many amazing creations brought to you by the incredibly talented Mara, who sculps these plant pots by hand and sells them online.

I've chosen quite a basic palette for a couple of reasons. One being that Mara isn't a fan of super bright colours herself, opting for more muted, earthy colours in her home decor and clothing, etc. The second reason being due to the custom nature of the product.

She paints and sculpts her pots based on her customer requests, so I left the face of the pot white to symbolise a blank canvas. The green I chose is to fit with the planty theme. I then created some sticker designs which show off just how colourful these little dudes and dudettes are once they're painted!

The complimentary pattern I created was made from lines I distorted in Photoshop, inspired by groovy, trippy 60's and 70's posters and textile patterns (a nod to the double entendre in the product name), and it also looks like tree rings, so I thought it worked really nicely.

I had so much fun working in this one! Hope you guys like it! Have an awesome week. Splat!! 🤘😛🤘

A little something I created for some good friends that were celebrating their first wedding anniversary. I painted it onto a box as an anniversary gift, but I forgot to take photos. If you really, really try though, you can probably get a good image in the minds eye of what it looked like. Didn't look too bad, did it? The idea was that they're now bound my marriage, and by the two L's they share in their names, which we all know is the important bit.

I've thrown in a couple of other sketches of ideas I was messing with as a little treat for ya ✌
