This Sunday!

Comments following our singing of Vivaldi’s Gloria included:

“It was a privilege to be present this evening and will be an abiding memory. The Red Priest would have approved. Thank you so much.”

“Thanks so much for inviting me to join the basses for this evening’s service. It was a real privilege to sing with such an accomplished choir and I very much enjoyed the opportunity”

So…if you’d like to hear our accomplished choir and are looking for a little light entertainment on a Sunday afternoon, then you will be welcome at our Summer Concert on Sunday 19th July at 3pm. The music will last just over an hour and then tea and cake will be served.

Music will include a nursery rhyme sung in the style of Handel, the wonderful 'Anthem' from Chess, solos for clarinet, flute and piano, and two pieces accompanied by the mellow tones of the Upham Recorder Orchestra - Mozart's Ave verum and Rod Stewart's Sailing. All this, and some things you didn't know about the Church Choir....

Please see the attached poster for details and ways of obtaining tickets.

We look forward to seeing you for our final event before the well earned summer break for the choir.

Our next event is on Sunday 21st June at 6.30pm. Botley Church choir and friends will perform Vivaldi's wonderful Gloria as part of a communion service. This type of service has been a highlight of Remembrance Sunday in All Saints for many years, featuring Faure's Requiem, and has always been a popular occasion in our musical calendar.

This year, we thought we would take the opportunity of having a similar service but at a less solemn time of year. The choir will be accompanied by strings, oboe and organ. We’d be delighted to see you.

Joe was the main person who worked on the project and will be sure to answer any questions you may have. As before, no tickets are required but donations to cover expenses and future music events are welcome. Hot drinks and filled rolls will be available to buy from 12.00.

Just some of the feedback we received from
our audience at our Sublime Music for Good Friday - Karl Jenkins Stabat Mater with Emily Blackledge:

Last night's performance was stupendous. The choir, the orchestra, the soloist (where do you find such talent!) all were amazing - a musical feast. I shed tears!

I just wanted to thank you all for this evening’s concert - it was amazing! I enjoyed it very much, thank you.

I am absolutely blown away by that performance. It was awesome. Love KJ's music.

What a wonderful concert last night. Had never heard the Jenkins Stabat Mater before. By turns intense, sad and joyful.

It was a very special moment in time, and I felt as though everyone had the same feeling.

A big thank you for such a wonderful concert on Good Friday. I think it is one of the very best concerts I have ever heard at Botley!

Our next event is on Friday and we have a very special offering for Good Friday with All Saints Chamber choir singing the poignant Stabat Mater by Karl Jenkins with the highly talented Emily Blackledge as soloist. This will be unlike anything heard in All Saints Church before. Don’t miss out! There will be a retiring collection to cover the cost of the superb chamber orchestra at the end rather than tickets.

We were delighted to have a packed church for Canon Peter Gould’s organ recital yesterday. His varied programme included a number of variations around hymn tunes such as Hyfrydol, Aberystwyth, St Anne and I’m sure many of our audience were quietly humming along!
