Jon Wilson Artist

Jon Wilson Artist Hello! I’m Jon, a Lincolnshire based artist, specialising in equine and pet portraiture. I paint and draw in a realist style.

Having qualified from the University of Liverpool in 1992 with a degree in Fine Art, I went on to further study and pursued a successful career in Mental Health Nursing. However, personal circumstances gave me the opportunity to rediscover painting and drawing, combining my love of nature, animals and art. I am not only striving to capture each animals character and individuality, but also the laws of nature, anatomy and light. Each piece of work is an opportunity to better myself as an Artist

”Darcy and Yoe”

Always so very rewarding to see the response to a painting. Painting was picked up this morning by Darcy and her Aunt. A wonderful response to the painting.

Darcy wanted to carry the painting to the car but probably a little too big for her….

The unicorns on Darcy’s helmet were fun (but tricky) to paint.

Colour… Colour is difficult. As someone that paints, that might seem a strange admission. It is nevertheless true. Im sure that any artist reading this would agree that when painting, colour is difficult to effectively manage.

Colour is all about relationships really. It is a matter of perception and context. For example, a mid-value color looks light in a shadow area, but looks incredibly darker in value if you place it over in a lighter area. Same color, but its relationship has changed. Same thing applies to the temperature of a colour. In a painting a color might appear cool in one location and then warm in another due to the relationship it shares with the colors next to it. Same color, but it looks different. Its complicated…
