🎭✨ MEET THE CAST: Narrator Edition ✨🎭
Next up in our Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat madness… it’s our fabulous Narrator! Claire Louise Ainsworth 🎤💫
The one who quite literally tells the whole story (no pressure then 😅).
We put Claire through some very serious questioning…
🌈Be honest: have you accidentally started narrating real life at home yet?
All the time 😂 but in all seriousness, I’ve been singing the Prologue to my two children at bedtime since they were babies! The lyrics are so inspiring and beautiful.
🌈 Which accent or vocal moment is your favourite to perform?
Potiphar is so much fun - although I have to sing it with sheer trust in my muscle memory as it’s too quick to think about the words!
Fun fact: one of my earliest memories is of my mum running from one side of the room to the other with me as a baby to that song, going faster as it speeds up.
🌈If the Narrator could have one modern item in the show, what would it be?
A script! 😂
🌈Who is most likely backstage to forget an entrance?
Going by last Sunday’s rehearsal… Marlo Lomas 😂 said with love of course!
🌈Which song gets stuck in your head the most after rehearsals?
Giiiiiiiiiive meeeee my colourrrreeed cooooaaaat, my amazing coloured coaaaaaaaat 🎶
🌈What’s harder: remembering lines or pretending not to laugh on stage?
It’s a close call! But the Narrator has a LOT of lyrics to remember, so I’m gonna say that.
🌈If Joseph was set in 2026, what colour would the coat definitely include?
You mean there’s a colour it DOESN’T include?!
🌈What’s your top backstage survival snack?
I’m quite strict with myself on not snacking between meals… however I’m usually rushing about so much that I’m eating my tea at rehearsals 😂 in which case, chicken rice!
🌈Which cast member makes rehearsals funniest?
Everyone at Hightimers is just wonderful. We all have a laugh at every rehearsal. Apart from the inimitable Alfredo Mese and Lowie, who are dangerous when they’re paired up (in the most brilliant and hilarious way!), the giggles are most definitely a team effort.
🌈If you could swap roles with anyone for one show, who would you pick?
Joseph! I would LOVE to sing Close Every Door. In another lifetime maybe!
🌈What’s been your favourite rehearsal moment so far?
There have been so many. Setting the Megamix was brilliant because everyone worked SO hard to push themselves into learning so much choreography, and it looks so good. But I also love watching Harry morph into the most amazing Joseph every week.
🌈How do you stay calm before going on stage?
I don’t 😂 anyone who truly knows me knows I am the most nervous performer there was. I keep myself to myself, so if I appear unsociable backstage it’s because I’m trying to focus and stay calm!
🌈Describe the show in three dramatic words.
Energetic. Fun. Colourful!
🌈What’s one thing audiences don’t realise about being Narrator?
I spend almost the entire time I’m on stage desperate for a drink of water 😂
🌈Have you ever nearly laughed mid-song?
Never mind nearly - we couldn’t get through Potiphar last week! Don’t worry - I can hold it together in front of an audience (promise).
🌈If the cast were trapped in the desert like Joseph, who would survive longest?
Our director, Michelle Henstock - she’s so calm and organised, and responds so well to curveballs in any situation.
🌈Why should everyone come watch the show?
It’s classic entertainment for the whole family that doesn’t cost the earth. Plus, it’s full of talented and passionate people who love to perform - and we’d love to have you in our audience!
🌈What do you love most about this cast?
How inclusive and welcoming it is. This is my second show with Hightimers and every single person is so warm, accommodating, accepting and kind. Watching the cast grow from strength to strength and seeing the on-stage characters really start to come out is just brilliant. Everyone supports and encourages each other.
🌈What advice would you give younger performers in the show?
Remain focused and professional even if you don’t think you can be seen, you’re offstage, or you’re waiting in the wings. Developing a professional manner and attitude at an early stage will be really beneficial if you decide to pursue a career in the arts.
🌈What’s the best part about playing Narrator?
For me, the Narrator has been one of my life-long dream roles. Joseph was the first show I ever saw on the West End when I was 18, I grew up with the soundtrack, and it’s been both of my children’s lullabies. It holds a very special place in my heart, and I’ll be forever grateful to Michelle and the team at Hightimers for trusting me with the part.
