We provide welcoming and accessible opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to develop new skills, share their stories and find somewhere to belong. Here's a sneak peak behind the curtain of In Another Place! Every event we produce begins with months of preparation, planning and rehearsal that we don't often show you, so here's a little look at our rehearsal last week. Can you guess what we are rehearsing for?

Here's some of Charlotte's experience of volunteering with us;

"The biggest thing IAP has given me is people. Some of my closest friends in the world are people I met here. We’re just a gang of misfits who somehow found each other in the most random place! The choir especially has become such a huge part of my life. I’d always wanted to sing a solo, mostly because I’m an only child and still secretly love a bit of attention, but getting to finally sing one alongside one of my best friends was genuinely amazing. There’s something so joyful about seeing people come together every week, especially in the choir. It’s impossible to not be lifted by it.

IAP has completely changed me as a person. When I was young and feeling lost, having people around me who supported me and believed in me made such a difference. It’s even influenced the work I do now as a counsellor. If I met an 18-year-old now who felt the way I did back then, I’d just want to give them the same kindness and patience that people here gave me. That’s what IAP really is to me. It’s family, innit!"

"Hi, my name is Anthony. I spent my formative years just up the road from Bootle in Netherton before moving to Bootle itself in 1981. I then served in the merchant navy for 15 years travelling all over Scandinavia, the Mediterranean, the Persian Gulf and beyond before coming back home and working in the local shipyard making rigging and cargo nets for ships and kid’s playgrounds!

Nearly 10 years ago I had a pretty serious medical incident whilst visiting my sister. When the paramedics brought me around I honestly felt like I had been given another chance at life. I decided then that I would create a bucket list and experience as many new things as I could with the time I had left.

Volunteering at IAP has really challenged me to step out of my comfort zone. It has actually built my confidence, skills and leadership abilities to the point that I was able to not just get back into employment but train others as well.

In the future, I’d really enjoy getting alongside others and teaching them how to do new things. I love showing new volunteers the ropes and watching them grow in confidence like I have. I’d also really love to learn some more technical skills so I can help IAP in other areas as well."
