Spoken word open mic night on the first Sunday of each month.

Will yo’ come o’ Sunday evenin’? Join us at the Socialist Club on Sunday, 6th September to share your poetry and commemorate the 130th Anniversary of the historic Winter Hill Trespass. The theme of the open mic is ‘Freedom’, and the guest performer is Nat Clare. Dr Nat Clare is a poet and singer-songwriter from Bolton. An early member of and contributor to Write Out Loud, Nat has written for and appeared on TV and radio, including the BBC and Channel Four.
With longstanding friend and collaborator Paul Blackburn, Nat formed Optical Busstop, a multimedia arts group and together they ran several successful seasons of ‘Live Friday’ alternative cabaret shows at Bolton’s Octagon Theatre. Nat has been performing at Wood Street for almost 50 years!

We had a fantastic night at Write Out Loud on Sunday. A huge thank you to all the wonderful performers and the audience. The next open mic will be on 6th September.

Join us for a poetry and spoken word open mic on Sunday, 5th July. Our guest performer will be Pip Fowler AKA Miss Airedale. Pip is a singer-songwriter for Glastonbury veterans Sentimentalists. Delivered without music and at point-blank range, his darkly humorous and deathly serious words become even more resonant when spoken.
“Sardonic and acerbic. Definitely warped, weird and sometimes bitter and twisted too!….a trip through the glass darkly!” (International Times).

We had a magically wonderful night at Write Out Loud last Sunday.
Beautiful, inspiring poetry from our guest performer Ged Thompson, talented readers, and a supportive audience made this evening really special. Huge thank you to everyone who came! Next Write Out Loud will be on 7th June.

The next Write Out Loud Spoken Word Open Mic at Bolton Socialist Club will be on Sunday 10 May, featuring guest performer Ged Thompson. Ged Thompson is a Liverpool-based poet, author and storyteller whose work centres on love, hope and magic. His writing spans fairytales, poetry and prose. His upcoming collection, Somewhere Between Heaven & Heartbreak, is a poetic meditation on love, lust and loss. A seasoned international performer and facilitator, Ged brings warmth, vulnerability and flashes of humour to his work on and off the page.

Doors open at 7 pm. All welcome.
