Bolton Little Theatre Back in 1931 a group of thespians, members of the Bolton Dramatic Society, decided to set up Bolton Little Theatre.

We are a vibrant amateur theatre company run by members we put on a programme of seven plays each year, running from Saturday to Saturday generally excluding Sunday and we put on extra nights for charities and parties. They were determined to present the best of contemporary and classic drama for which they felt they needed a theatre under their own control, as a precedent for this was being set a

ll over the country. Today the theatre, based on Hannover Street in the centre of Bolton, continues to engage with audiances of all ages. Offering seven plays a season, from classics to comedy, this award winning amateur theatre can certainly count itself on a par with many of the professional theatres.

Our brand new season is only days away, opening with Oscar Wilde's sparkling comedy THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST.

Respectable Jack and his roguish friend Algernon have both, unbeknownst to each other, invented alter egos to escape their duties and responsibilities.
Lady Bracknell, Algy’s formidable aunt is determined to marry off her daughter Gwendolen to someone of a suitable social standing, but Gwendolen has her heart firmly set on Jack who has no idea who his parents are.
Will Gwendolen get her way? Who exactly is Jack? How will Cecily, Jack’s ward react when she meets Algy? And what will Miss Prism, her governess, and Canon Chasuble have to say about the matter?
All is revealed as Jack finally discovers the importance of being Earnest.

Lady Bracknell, Miss Prism, Dr. Chasuble, and Lane form the satirical backbone of the comedy of The Importance of Being Earnest. Lady Bracknell acts as the terrifying embodiment of Victorian snobbery, while Lane serves as Algernon’s deadpan butler who dryly enables his employer's social deceptions. In the country, Miss Prism attempts to maintain strict moral order as a governess while sharing a humorously repressed romance with the local rector, Dr. Chasuble. Their lives intertwine dramatically in the final act when a long buried secret bubbles to the surface...

Comedy and chaos ensue as Jack and Algernon become entangled in their own web of lies as they try to woo Gwendolen and Cecily, their efforts further complicated by the presence of Jack's prospective mother-in-law, the formidable Lady Bracknell!

WE NEED YOU… Behind the Scenes!
Ever wondered how the magic happens at Bolton Little Theatre? Well, it starts long before the curtain goes up!
We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our set-building team. You don’t need to have professional experience — just an enthusiasm for DIY with some basic skills, a willingness to get stuck in, learn something new and have a bit of fun along the way.
Whether you’re handy with a screwdriver, a dab hand with a paintbrush, good at making things out of seemingly nothing, or simply have a couple of hours to spare, we’d love to hear from you.
Our productions rely on the skills, creativity and hard work of volunteers, and there’s something incredibly satisfying about seeing an idea become a finished set — and then watching it come alive on stage.

We have a small team that meets most Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.
Another team meets most Monday evenings and a post-session drink in our bar or a local hostelry has been known! Entirely optional of course!

So, if you fancy getting behind the scenes at Bolton Little Theatre, come and help us build the magic!

Opening our brand-new season is Oscar Wilde’s timeless comedy 'The Importance of Being Earnest' — a sparkling masterpiece of mistaken identities, outrageous deception and razor-sharp wit. Follow Jack and Algernon as they juggle double lives, romantic entanglements and a rather inconvenient number of secrets, while Lady Bracknell remains determined to keep everyone firmly under control. Expect fabulous characters, delicious one-liners and plenty of Wilde mischief. A perfect way to launch our new season — and a trip to the theatre you certainly wouldn’t want to miss!

We’re looking for someone to take on the challenging and fascinating role of Lucy in Alan Ayckbourn’s Woman in Mind.

Lucy is not quite what she first appears to be. She is warm, charming and seemingly the perfect daughter — but as the play unfolds, the boundaries between reality and imagination begin to blur. This is a role with plenty of opportunity to create a memorable, complex and wonderfully nuanced character.

Playing age 20s/30s

Woman In Mind runs from Saturday 24th to Saturday 31st October and rehearsals start on 1st September.
