Members of OTG busy rehearsing at The Octagon for our latest play You’ve Never Had It So Good, a play about the 1950’s - first performance in June at Over Houston for the Queens Jubilee celebrations.

Hi - just an update on OTG. We’re all massively looking forward to performing Ways and Means for the Bolton Wanderers Supporters Club over at the
Reebok Stadium on Tuesday 2November - our first performance since lockdown finished 👍
In November we will be reading through and
getting into character for our new play. You
Have Never Had It So Good - this is a play (written by me) about life in 1950’s in Scholes (or any northern town for that matter) it tells the story of life in the 50’s - before tv, or washing machines
When gossip was the main hobby for women stuck at home all day doing housework! and Friday night knit ‘n’ natter was the highlight of the week.
Everyone is excitedly looking forward to the Whit Monday Walks and then ……..money goes missing!
Comedy, mystery and suspense - who has taken the money?

We already have 3 booking for the play and we are all looking forward to our new venture.

On The Go are back in action and rehearsing!👍
We are rehearsing Ways and Means as we are going to honour our commitments booked before lockdown 👍Really looking forward to performing again.

Just an update for all our lovely audiences who have supported us in the past of what we are up to and what we have been doing as we can’t meet to rehearse. .We are all still meeting every Thursday on Zoom - everyone in the group has been really supportive and joined in with all the different activities that we have been doing online until we can meet again. We have been script reading, writing and performing monologues and this week we are doing Spooky Stories!😬😱😈.

For fans of Dirty Face: Janys Chambers, who was our Director, has formed her own website: janyschambers.co.uk - if you go onto her website and check out the section: Participation, Education,Dramaturg there are some wonderful performance pictures of Dirty
Face also some research pics that I used.
Also, Jim Berry very kindly gave us permission to use the words to the song that he created for us and performed with The Houghton Weavers.

We can’t wait to start rehearsing my new play You’ve Never Had It So Good which is about life in Lancashire in the 1950’s.
Stay safe everyone. X

A comprehensive account of all of Janys Chambers' work as a freelance writer, director, dramaturg, performer and theatre-maker with many images of past projects.

being particularly hair raising!

A copy of a letter that Judith from On The Go Theatre Company has sent to the Bolton Evening News. The Octagon has a brand new Theatre that should have opened this month bringing a much needed boost to the North West and the town of Bolton. They are busy fund raising to be able to open as soon as the building is finished and the Gov give the ok.
Please support if you can - we are missing our beloved Octagon and their support so much.
We can’t wait to return to rehearsals and take our work out into the community with our performances. We had such a busy March and April booked which were, of course cancelled..We have been busy meeting weekly on Zoom, reading our latest play You’ve Never Had It So Good but can’t wait to all be together again. Please support our British Theatre and so looking forward to being back with everyone.👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👩‍👩‍👧‍👦

Hi everyone - OTG has been absent for a while due to the lockdown. We are all hugely dissapointed that we can’t perform at Horwich Resource Centre this afternoon for the VE Day celebrations, we were looking forward to it so much. However, we will be waving our flags and singing along from home on Friday. The song, We’ll Meet Again, is especially poignant for OTG as it is our finale song for Ways and Means - it means so much more now! We are all looking forward to getting back together again and starting our new play, You’ve Never Had It So Good, which takes place in the 1950’s.
I saw this picture of this girl really enjoying
Herself on VE Day, and it inspired me to write this little poem. I didn’t mean too - but after
I had written it, I thought how relevant it is to now. Although I’m not advocating that everyone shows their knickers!! 😜stay safe everyone.

Brand new scripts picked up this morning 👍
2 years in the writing and finally finished!
I love a new script! Soon it will look like this!
Hard work, learning lines, getting into new characters for the hard working OTG
Our first booking is in September and we start rehearsals with our new director Colette Wiseman - so looking forward to starting a new project👍

You’ve Never Had It So Good

Come and revisit Britain in the 1950’s

It’s 1957 and the Whit Monday Walks are fast approaching. There is much activity in the
Lancashire Streets. You will remember Perry Como and his Magic Moments and you will all remember Rock Around The Clock. However in the local streets of Lancashire everyone is
anxiously getting ready for the Whit Walking Day. Meanwhile, money is stolen and a girl goes missing, confidences are broken and there is scandal and conflict amongst the neighbours.

Really looking forward to starting rehearsals soon with our director Cara - big challenge for us all, but we will rise to it - we always do!👍

20/01/2019

Happy New Year to everyone and all those who supported our productions in 2018! Just a current update of what we are doing:

We are busy play reading with our Director Cara, to decide which new play we will be doing later on in the year - exciting!!

Our first performance of the year is on Friday 22 March at Aspull Legion. We will be performing Flanders to Fish which has been very well received when we performed it 8 times in November that was such a busy, challenging month for everyone, but great to do the play so many times as everyone’s confidence just grew and grew. We will be performing along with the fabulous Flybynights which is a brill Irish Group. I will post more info later on about this. It is always a great sell out night at the Legion.

We are also performing Murder on the Moor again in April at the Blundell Arms due to popular demand. Quite a few upcoming meetings planned with organisations to discuss future bookings - so lots of good stuff to look forward to for OTG!👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Just a few pics from our F2F play at Westhoughton History Society (who commissioned the play) I based some of the action in the 2nd half in Challenders Fish shop (which was an original shop in Westhoughton after the First World War) the people stood at the side of the sign are Challenders great grandchildren! Amazing! Just one more F2F to go to end our tour, it has been an honour and privelage to perform the play to commemorate the end of WW1
