It’s only taken me 13 years of being a care home entertainer to put together a 100% ABBA themed session. I don’t just do sing-a-longs, all my sessions are interactive and include gentle, person centred activities like exercise, quizzes and reminiscence. I always encourage, I’m respectful and never pushy, and I get involved with, and get to know my clients. This week I have been singing along to English themed songs. It was Saint George’s day yesterday on the 23rd of April, and you know I love a theme! Some lovely feedback today from a resident who had a wonderful time singing along with me. An impromptu dance with staff and residents to getting Jiggy with it by Will Smith. Over the last 13 years of entertaining in Care homes, I have learned how to read the room. I always bring additional songs and props, so that I can mix things up to suit the flow of the activities. It’s important as an entertainer to be empathetic of the vibe in the room. Usually when I arrive, everyone is quiet, but by the time I go home everyone is grinning.

I had the honour of entertaining in one of my regular care homes for a lovely chap Bill, celebrating his 100th Birthday.
Surrounded by all his RNLI mates there was a lot of laughs and banter, Bill had a fantastic day. What a cheeky charmer, I was so happy when he serenaded me with ‘I’ll be your Sweetheart’ when I arrived. Emma and the staff at Oban House in Bognor Regis put on an amazing birthday bash, and all rounded off nicely watching the Grand National, with a couple of winners!

Taking bookings for activity sessions including singalongs from the 1940’s to the 1970’s, gentle exercise (nothing serious I promise!) quizzes and reminiscence.

Activity sessions are Monday-Friday and last an hour. I usually work 11am -12 noon and 2-3pm or 3:30-4:30pm but I can be flexible around these times.

I am very flexible with activities, I can tailor sessions to the likes and needs of my audience and provide themed session. I believe it is important to get a feel for the vibe in the room and mix things up if necessary.

I have been working in care homes since 2013, it’s my passion and I love making new friends and spreading joy. I am so lucky to have a job where I get to have so much fun. I learn so much from my customers and I treat them as an extension of my family.
