Due to circumstances out of our control and after careful consideration Hideaways, Chelmsford will NOT be re-opening.
However the exciting news is that it’s not goodbye, we have just decided to move and as we have successfully been granted funding from the Arts Council and Music Venues Trust we are in an exciting position to relocate!
A great opportunity has presented itself in the Braintree area where we are teaming up with The Bocking Arts Theatre who itself is in the process of a rebrand and relaunch. This will enable us to put on better shows and work within a team that can grow together in partnership both wanting the same thing and going in the same direction with the same goals.
A big thank you goes to to all of you for being part of our journey and supporting live music, watching it grow from an idea in a pub to what it became. You, the audience, was the reason why it was so very worth all the blood, sweat and tears.
Thanks to the Chelmsford Social Club for its help and support for the journey we had together.
And a warm thank you to James at The Bocking Arts Theatre for welcoming us with open arms. Let’s do this.
We look forward to seeing you at our new home.

Finally we have some positive news!
Whilst we’ve been awaiting guidance on reopening safely from the MVA and how indoor events will look (government to confirm around May 17) we decided to get some improvements done to the venue! We are very proud to have been successfully awarded funding to keep Hideaways alive and kicking post-covid.

We’ve upgraded the electrics to accommodate the much larger PA and lighting rig. We even have a tour bus hook up now too. We’ve upgraded the Front of house PA system consisting of L’Acoustics A15 focus over KS21 subs powered by L’Acoustics flagship LA12X DSP amplifier. (We kept the original 1970’s speakers on the wall to show the venues journey). We have also upgraded our stage monitoring system to give the bands 6 mixes of 15” RCF powered monitor wedges. Allen & Heath take care of FOH and Monitoring duties with the SQ6 48 channel digital mixing desk with the GX4816 96khz stage box. All mics and stands have been upgraded so we are now fully tour rider friendly!

Huge thanks goes out to Adrian Cooke at the Arts Council for believing in this project, always at the end of the phone and helped shape how we can upgrade the venue.

A very special thanks goes out to David Pickess, Luan Nikita, and Sean Scanlan for helping me sort the electrics and source the right equipment for the venue. We’ve done a multitude of test days and finally have what works! Friends for over 20 years and I couldn’t have done it without you.

And finally, a big thank you to Jim Wilkinson at the Club who allowed us to make a hell of a mess (AGAIN) and for sharing our passion to make this building as successful as possible to cater for live music.
One hell of a dream, one hell of a team and looking forward to what the future holds....Decor improvements next!

Despite the turmoil the music industry has been thrown into throughout this pandemic we are pleased to announce that Hideaways WILL reopen next year Feb 2022!
“Indoor” Music events/venues are currently still fighting to survive with opening uncertainties under the pressure of social distancing restrictions on audience numbers and the financial implications of this on ticket sales and booking acts. With this in mind we have decided to remain closed until 2022 when restrictions can be lifted further and to let the dust settle to ensure we are financially viable and can give the reopening justice for the bands and the audience alike.
All tickets purchased for rearranged shows will still be valid for new dates in 2022. This will give us some more time to continue with venue improvements.
