The Purbeck Society for Young Musicians Monday Night Music academy continues to flourish offering instrumental lessons and group activities, led by inspiring professional musicians which includes a number of Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra musicians.

The Whispering Dome is an award-winning concert-adventure that follows a single nightingale on her epic migration from the UK to The Gambia. The performance imagines the human music rising from the lands she flies over – from medieval Europe to North Africa and West Africa. Five exceptional performers draw on European early music, Moroccan Gnawa Sufi traditions and West African Griot song, weaving ancient love songs, pilgrims’ tales, bird songs and new choral works into a rich, border-crossing sound world. The Whispering Dome won the 2024 REMA (European Early Music Network) award for Extra-European Project of the Year.

Summer term CPD and School Music Development Plan offer
We know that finding time to invest in music CPD is challenging, so this term we are encouraging teachers to dedicate just one hour of their term to upskilling themselves in music. If every teacher set aside just one hour a week to focus on music, this would amount to 2,400 hours of teacher learning across Dorset. Just imagine the difference that level of investment could make for our young people.
Dorset pupils tell us that “Music helps me regulate” and “Music is an important part of my life – it allows me to express myself freely.” They recognise that “Everyone has a chance in music.” Those voices remind us why music matters, not only as a subject, but as a powerful tool for wellbeing, inclusion, and self‑expression.

The closing date for entries to the Beyond the Hills & Valleys Composing Competition has been extended to Monday 17 May 🎶✨
