What does an ancient forest sound like? And what might those sounds become when they’re transformed into music for a giant, curious creature?

For The Big One Hundred, composer and puppeteer Peter Twose looked to the landscape of Ashdown Forest itself for inspiration, drawing on the sounds of its wildlife, from Nightjars and Adders to the footsteps of people moving through the heathland. Working alongside the puppeteers throughout rehearsals, Peter created a score that could evolve with Poppet as she discovered her movements, character and place in the world.

Click the link below to read the full blog, where Peter takes us behind the music, sharing how the sounds of the forest became the soundtrack to Poppet’s journey from a mysterious, emerging creature to the fully formed character:

That’s a wrap on the South East tour of TEABREAK! 🎉

Now in its third year of touring, we’re so happy to be able to continue bringing this brilliant show to audiences around the country.

TEABREAK is an immersive outdoor performance combining dance and audio to explore the journey of Britain’s favourite drink, and the many cultures, communities and stories woven into it. Along the way, audiences are invited to pause, listen and share a freshly brewed cup of chai.

A huge thank you to our brilliant performers Kali Chandrasegaram and Divija Melally, and to everyone who came along, listened, reflected, drank chai and shared the experience with us ❤️

And a big thank you to house southeast Theatre Network for delivering this tour in partnership with us and helping us bring TEABREAK to audiences across the South East.

Here’s what audiences had to say about the tour:

“The dance and music were absolutely stunning and a completely unexpected delight.”

“So glad we came to this. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole performance. Everyone should listen to this story.”

“I enjoyed taking a moment to sit and reflect.”

Keep an eye out for our yellow tuk-tuk as TEABREAK makes its way to a town near you 🛺 💛

The Big One Hundred is underway, and Poppet has officially begun her journey! 🌿✨

But how do you create a giant creature inspired by one of Britain’s most beloved landscapes?

We caught up with acclaimed artist and fashion designer Jack Irving (), whose otherworldly designs have been worn by pop icons like Lady Gaga, Doja Cat and many more, to hear the story behind Poppet’s creation.

Inspired by the colours, textures and wildlife of Ashdown Forest, and shaped by hundreds of children’s ideas, Poppet is a creature born from imagination and the natural world.

Take a look behind the scenes and hear Jack share the creative process that brought Poppet to life.

THE BIG ONE HUNDRED AT ASHDOWN FOREST 💜

What an amazing weekend!

Together, we opened a new chapter in the story of Ashdown Forest, celebrating 100 years of imagination, adventure and the extraordinary landscape that inspired Winnie-the-Pooh.

Over two unforgettable days, thousands of people became Ashdown Explorers, meeting Poppet for the very first time, collecting explorer badges, discovering incredible wildlife, getting creative in workshops, enjoying performances, and making memories together in the heart of the Forest. 🌿

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, and to the incredible team who brought this ambitious project to life. Special thanks to Wealden District Council, Ashdown Forest, Ashdown Forest Foundation, our artists, performers, facilitators, volunteers, crew and everyone working behind the scenes. We couldn’t have done it without you. 💜

The adventure doesn’t end here. The Ashdown Forest Foundation’s Next Chapter campaign is helping to protect this remarkable landscape for the next 100 years. If you were inspired by your visit, we’d love you to help write the Forest’s future by supporting the Hundred Year Legacy Fund.
