A celebration of imagination, hand-drawn art and local talent - inspired by the world of Roald Dahl!

Today is Roald Dahl Day - a celebration of one of the world’s greatest storytellers and the imagination, creativity, originality that continue to inspire.

With our production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, we wanted to embrace that same spirit of imagination by recognising original artwork and the important role artists play in bringing stories to life.

As part of our production design, we’re delighted to be working with local artists Elliot Snow and Katherine Jones, celebrating the incredible creative talent we have within our community.

We’ll be showcasing Elliot’s talents as a sketch artist, alongside Katherine’s neurographic artwork, with their creations helping shape the world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Over the coming months, we’ll be sharing some of their amazing work as we get closer to bringing the show to the stage!

We’re looking for additional ensemble members to join the cast of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, coming to Blackwood Miners’ Institute from the 15th to 17th April 2027!

Rehearsals have now started and take place every Thursday from 7pm-9pm. We’d love to hear from singers of all levels of experience who would like to join us as we bring the show to the stage.

There are also opportunities for ensemble members to take on featured and speaking roles, as well as opportunities to perform with the society outside of the main production.

If you're interested, please send us a short recording of yourself singing. It doesn’t need to be a formal self-tape or professionally recorded - a simple phone recording is absolutely fine!

🍫 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Auditions – Submissions Now Closed 🍫

A huge thank you to everyone who has shown interest in auditioning for our production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Due to the fantastic response we have received, we are now closing audition submissions. We have been overwhelmed by the number of people wanting to be part of this production and we’re really looking forward to meeting everyone at the auditions!

And for anyone who hasn’t applied for an audition but would still like to be involved, there will be plenty of opportunities to join the production team and ensemble as we begin rehearsals in September. 🍫✨

🍫 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Auditions – Final Spaces Available! 🍫

A huge thank you to everyone who has expressed an interest in auditioning on Saturday 25th July for our 2027 production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The response has been incredible, and we’re delighted with the number of talented performers who want to be part of it. 🎭

We now only have a couple of audition slots remaining. At this stage, these spaces will be reserved for performers interested in the following roles:

✨ Grandpa Joe
✨ Grandpa George
✨ Mr Beauregarde
✨ Augustus Gloop
✨ Jerry (News Presenter)

Please note that we are no longer accepting applications for Charlie Bucket, Violet Beauregarde or Veruca Salt, as we have received a fantastic level of interest in these roles.

If you would like to be considered for one of the remaining roles, please complete the audition form as soon as possible. Audition spaces will be allocated based on suitability for the available roles.

For those who have shown interest but may not be offered one of these final audition places, we would still love to hear from you. There will be opportunities to get involved with BMTS, including ensemble opportunities as we begin rehearsals in September.

Blackwood Musical Theatre Society were delighted to be part of Blackwood Beach Party earlier today, bringing a little bit of musical theatre to the community!

This performance marks the end of very busy and transformative year for BMTS, and our members can now enjoy a well-earned summer break!!

It’s been wonderful to welcome new faces to the society, and we’re excited to continue growing and sharing our love of music and performance with even more of you.

Behind the scenes, preparations are already underway for our next major production, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, with our final block of auditions taking place next Saturday. 🍫

Thank you to all our members for their hard work, boundless enthusiasm and commitment β€” we can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings!

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for our Taster Session yesterday!

It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces, along with so many new ones!!

Now officially a registered charity, the society is looking forward to an exciting year ahead, with our next major production in the works and more opportunities to bring musical theatre into the community!

We can't wait to share it all with you!
