The Claremont Crow is returning to Claremont Park Community Centre this week šŸ–¤

Following its magical wishing portal that arrived for Lightpool 2025, join us on Wednesday 3 June for a special performance of Stephanie Ridings’ Claremont Crow story, alongside the unveiling of two bespoke illustrated light panels by artist Sarah Harris which will sit in the portholes of the centre as a lasting artwork.

Long ago, in 1887, Lord Nelson’s mighty flagship Foudroyant crashed into Blackpool’s North Pier, where its timbers scattered upon the sands.

Legend whispers that the spirit of the ship still lingers: a black crow of Claremont is said to guide wanderers to a secret wishing gate formed from the ship’s wood.

Come along and help us welcome the Crow back to Claremont.

šŸ‘„ The Right to Space

As we continue unfolding our new rights-based programme, we arrive at our final right: The Right to Space.

What does it mean to truly have space?

Not just physically - but emotionally, creatively and collectively.
It’s the right to shape the places around you.
To feel welcome in shared spaces.
To contribute ideas, be listened to, and participate on your own terms.

And sometimes, it’s simply the right to pause. To find somewhere that offers comfort, connection and care in the middle of everyday life.

One Mereside participant described it like this: ā€œMost of the time I go to Wash Your Words, and it’s a home from home sort of thing… You walk in and you just feel at peace. No one judges you… A shelter from the storm.ā€

That feeling of safety, belonging and ownership sits at the centre of this right.

How can arts and culture help create spaces that genuinely support people to thrive?

Through The Right to Space, we’ll continue developing long-term, artist-led projects that reimagine what shared spaces can hold.

This summer, in association with Blackpool Grand Theatre, the real life stories of Blackpool residents will tour across the town in The Land Beneath Our Feet before heading to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Starring acclaimed writer and poet Nathan Parker, Parker Words, the script is taken directly from conversations held with Blackpool residents during his 2025 Right to Grow residency - entwining the urgency of the climate crisis with the quiet resilience found in community gardens.

At the centre is Ted. An old-timer. A storyteller. A man so grounded in the soil of a place that it refuses to let him go, even as it disappears.

Funny, fragile, and deeply human, these Blackpool voices reveal something beyond climate headlines – they reveal what we stand to lose.

This is not a distant future. This is not someone else’s story. This is ours.

Tickets are FREE but booking required.

🌱 We have germination! 🌱

Our Field of Dreams project - developed with artists Heather Peak and Ivan Morison - is beginning to emerge following the recent rotavating and seeding by Rob at D&C Hayton Agricultural Services.

The wildflower meadow will become a living creative space where natural materials will be grown and transformed into sculpture, natural dyes, textiles and more through a summer of artist-led activities.

From June onwards, we’ll be running a packed creative programme featuring:
✧Ceramics
✧Sculpture
✧Weaving
✧Wood carving
✧Natural dye & textile workshops
…and plenty more hands-on activities for all ages.

To celebrate, we’re inviting the community to a FREE picnic on Saturday 6 June, 12pm–2pm, where you can:
✧Explore the field
✧Find out about upcoming workshops
✧Enjoy snacks provided by Tesco
✧Join artist Janine Walker in creating nature-inspired costumes for dogs using materials found in the meadow

Bring your own picnic, blankets, family, friends - and dogs!

Field of Dreams, Bowness Ave, FY4 4TE

We’d love to see you there and celebrate the first signs of growth together.

This week’s community wild clay dig with artist in residence and ceramicist Laura Negus was a success.

Across two Blackpool sites, Bridge Farm Field and Grange Park, residents joined us to dig, gather and learn more about wild clay as a raw artistic material. Together, we collected two and a half buckets of clay directly from the land, ready to be processed and transformed into future ceramic works.

There’s something special about beginning with the earth itself - understanding the texture, colour and character of local clay before it becomes an object. Alongside digging, participants also explored ideas for personal maker’s marks inspired by the surrounding landscape and environment.

We’re excited to see how this material develops and the objects it will eventually become.

Thank you to everyone who joined us.

šŸ’ The Right to Wonder/Wander

As we continue exploring our new rights-based programme, we arrive at The Right to Wonder/Wander.

What happens when people are given permission to be curious?

To step outside of routine.
To encounter something unexpected.
To see their neighbourhood and themselves differently.

This right is about possibility.
To explore the overlooked and the unfamiliar.
To experience art, conversation, and creativity that expands what feels imaginable.
To wander physically, emotionally, creatively - whether that’s along a neglected stretch of coastline, into a community space for the first time, or beyond the boundaries of your usual world.

One Grangetopia participant reflected:
ā€œI never felt exposed… it’s been exciting, it’s things I have never done before. This process has been done in stages… I’ve gone from bubble to bubble.ā€

So how can arts and culture create opportunities for people to encounter new perspectives, places and possibilities?

Through The Right to Wonder/Wander, we’ll work with communities and partners to create experiences that invite curiosity, connection and movement - across neighbourhoods, across ideas, and beyond comfort zones.

Over the past year, we’ve been working with local communities and web developers EcoSystem2 to create Sand Grown - a brand new app exploring soil, seasons, art and community.

Last week, we invited a group of Blackpool residents to test the app at our latest Supper Club, held inside the beautiful polytunnel At the grange Blackpool. Together, we shared ideas, gathered feedback, and explored how Sand Grown can connect people through creativity and nature.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped shape the future of the project. We’re now making final tweaks ahead of launching Sand Grown to the wider public later this year.

And of course, thank you to Le Roti Sandwich Rotisserie Lytham for an incredible meal: halloumi rainbow salad followed by rhubarb crumble and custard… absolutely delicious.

Want to know more about Sand Grown? Drop us a comment or send us a DM, we’d love to chat.
